My laptop is on the way!
Ordered a laptop at last! I got my tax refunds back, and wasted no time. S and I did some investigating though. I was totally committed to getting an Apple, but he humiliated me in Best Buy in front of one of the reps, and I conceded that I really didn't know all my facts about the best buy for my buck.
So, after several hours looking through reviews online and ratings, the Apple was still in the running. It's actually not a bad buy. The only real limitation it has is the fact that it's an Apple, and would not necessarily be compatible with as many things as PC would, making it actually more expensive for all the add-ons. It was still a pretty good buy though. However, another one in the running was the Dell Inspiron E1505. It was also pretty highly rated, and voted best general purpose laptop by one reviewer mag. Consumer Reports rated it quite highly as well. We went to the Dell site, and customized an order (another nice perk from Dell). Turns out we also found an excellent coupon for 20% off, allowing me to get even more for my money. Plus, it comes with the new Windows Vista, which is pretty Mac-similar. So, for way less than I would have paid for an Apple, I made the decision to get a Dell. And this decision was made final after I got to see one in person (what incredible luck that there should be a Dell outlet at Twelve Oaks, in addition to the Apple Store!). We spoke with the rep, who actually had a Mac himself! He was able to give us the real scoop on both, and he really didn't seem biased one way or the other, just honest. But again, I thought about MY needs and my pocketbook, and decided for the Dell.
I am NOT telling Yuli about this though. She'll go bullistic. She is an Apple nut, just like everyone else in Ann Arbor...
Anyhow, it has been ordered and it will soon be on its way! Yay!!!! At last!
On a side note, I find it totally bizarre how lucky I've been this weekend. First of all, I got my tax refund back fast! Second, I managed to luck out of dad-duty Saturday, which I'd agreed to do since my aunt could not. My mom ended up getting the day off! Third, I forgot my gym pass yesterday, so couldn't go to the gym, and planned to go to S's today with him, and pay the $20 admission fee. However, when we got there we found out it was an open house day, so it was free!!! Sweet! And then last night, going to Twelve Oaks to visit the Apple Store, we just happened to run into this Dell outlet in the middle of the mall. Crazy luck, because you can pretty much only buy them online, so it's hard to make any judgements based on seeing a physical model- but there it was! And a knowledgeable rep as well!
So, overall, I've been insanely lucky... and I'm wondering about how much longer that will last?
