straighten up and fly right

Mar 20, 2007 22:52

After reading the Arseblog today I was stricken with some sort of hysteria regarding the Alex Hleb parts. (NOOO! NOOO!) And there I was, having entertained thoughts of flogging Alex Hleb to the Spanish League a few times before. Obviously I am mentally unstable. And backward-looking, since I went and dug up previous blog entries. Uhh, I forgot to check when they were dated, but you can sort of tell, since he mentions the matches.

Warning: These blog entries were of Good Times. Keeping our current situation in mind, they may cause uh, bipolar disorder.

Dear friends,

I am back on track! I have to admit, I was quiet for a long time. I hope you can understand this. From the first moment on, it was still the pure disappointment of the defeat in the Championsleague Final. Then, I went on holiday, enjoyed the World Championship 2006 on TV in Germany.

But now, since a couple of days I am back in London working hard for the new season. I am sure, also grace to the new players in the gunners team, that we will again be able to offer you great moments in Premiership and - thats my opinion - also in Championsleague.

Best wishes to you all,

your Alex

Dear friends,

what a great moment on last Saturday, the testimonial match for such a famous player like Dennis Bergkamp. Unbelievable - 423 games and 120 goals for the gunners. 11 years in Highbury Park - and his last match was on the other hand the start of a new era, our new Stadium.

Our Emirates Stadium really is wonderful. And more than 54000 visitors saw a interesting match Arsenal vs. Ajax Amsterdam.

Of course, in this phase of preparing for a new season, results are not that important. But of course, to beat Ajax will increase our self-confidence.

Of course, Thierry made his goal.

And I was absolutely proud that I could join this historical match for the first 45 minutes.

Let me say "Thanks to you, Dennis, for this year together with you in London. I was a great honour for me to have the chance to be part of FC Arsenal together with such a famous player!"

Best wishes to you all,

your Alex

Dear friends,

the first step is made! We now have one foot in the group stages of the Championsleague after that 3-0 victory on Tuesday against Dinamo Zabreb. But we mustn't be to careless thinking about the 2nd leg. I am sure, we will win there also, because in 2 weeks, some players - especially those who started late due to World Championship 2006 - are in a much better shape.

To come to my person, it was a match in Croatia I think I can be satisfied with. I did my job in midfield as you all can expect it. That some passes yielded to chances or even goals - okay, as I said: that's my job.

Now, we have more than a week to concentrate on first match in Premiership against Aston Villa and 4 days later the next home match against Zagreb. If we succeed in both, we will have a remarkable start in this season.

Best wishes to you all,

your Alex

Dear friends,

no really good start in the new Premiership season, dear Arsenal fans. Only 1 point in the 2 starting matches. But for me it was clear that it won't be that easy against Aston Villa and Manchester City. We should be aware - they don't have so much players who had to start that late with the training as we have - with respect to the World Championship in summer. So we have to look now from one week to the next-actually we can not be in our best shape, but we will reach it soon.

From this point of view, it might be an advantage that next weekend there are no matches as there are already the first European Championship qualification matches. The next "gunners" match is on 9th of September against Middlesborough, a team we have beaten 7-0 in january this year. But we will not be blended of this result-only by working hard we can finally get our first three points!

Best wishes to you all,

your Alex

Dear friends,

it was as expected - no easy match, but at the end, it was a good result: with this 3-0 victory against Sheffield, we have offered our new stadium its first League victory. Now we can have a look to the upper part of the table, as we are climbing step by step. And, obviously, after the third victory in succession, we seem to have found our shape and performance.

I had to accept to be a substitue and to come on the field only for the last 20 minutes. But be sure-the FC Arsenal has such a good team with great players, you never have a garantuee to play. But this gives me even more motivation for this week! Believe me in this point, absolutely!

Best wishes to you all,

your Alex

Dear friends,

step by step we get further. This 2-1 win against Charlton Athletic was one of those steps that are not easy to make. They are nearly at the end of Premierleague, but any team in first division of English football is a strong team and is hard to beat.

Now we are in the midfield of the table - rank 8, only 5 points behind the leading position with one match less. So good chances to go ahead.

The break next weekend due to qualifying matches for the European Championship 2008 is okay-i don't think that this will bring your "gunners" out of track. Yes, we are back - in "track of success".

Best wishes to you all,

your Alex

Dear friends,

on Saturday we gathered our next three points. Very important ones, because if you want to decrease the distance to the leading teams, you simply have to win against teams like Watford. So at the end 3-0 was a clear result, which from my point of view was absolutely correct at the end of the 90 minutes.

But the FC Arsenal never has time to lock back on matches of the past too much - as the next challenges always are still waiting. Tomorrow, on Tuesday. It's Championsleague time! Our away match in Russia, against ZSKA Moskau. What we can expect there - a full stadium, with fanatic fans and - as I believe - a hard match to go. But if we would be sucessfull there, we nearly could already start to plan for the next round! This must be motivation enough for the "gunners" - and it will!

Thank you for supporting us, everywhere in whole Europe where your favourite team is playing.

Best wishes to you all,

your Alex

Dear friends,

I think this Sunday match of your "gunners" was not far away from the " FC Arsenal at his best!". Reading was quite sucessful in its home matches up to now - look at the results against Chelsea and ManU. But we did a great job - and this ended up in a clear result.

To say a few words to me myself, I think it was okay what I showed for my team. Of course, it was exciting to make my goal and to have some other good ideas on field.

Now, from weekend to weekend, it gets more encouraging to look on league table, I think you agree. We are finally back in the leading group, and so we can look back to a really sucessful first phase of the season.

Best wishes to you all,

your Alex

Dear friends,

this is absolutely disappointing! If you remember the 90 minutes, all was okay your gunners showed- except the result. We had been such dominating, but at the end now we must be aware of the fact that nothing is clear in our group G. But we can still do it if we believe in us.

First of all, now we should do our job on weekend in the Premierleague. You never have time to look back - so acutally West Ham United is waiting for us. We must beat them to keep alive our chance to come nearer to Chelsea and ManU. So this is the next important step we have to make!

Best wishes to you all,

your Alex

To say a few words to you yourself, please be back in "track of success" after this break for European Championship 2008! Or I will be absolutely sad.

Btw, I swear I must have dreamt this up now, but was there ever any article in which Alex talked about what he planned to do over last summer? (Like er, I vaguely recall him saying something like how he wouldn't watch the World Cup live, but from his hotel OR AM I DREAMING ALL THIS UP.)

your alex
