I'm going to Prague in nine days with a shitload of my best friends.
And then Salzburg.
And then Bamberg, Germany.
Why haven't I gotten more excited about this before?
Oh right, I was too busy trying to get in to college and pretending to do Art History work.
BUT NOW I'M DONE WITH BOTH OF THOSE SO I CAN GET FUCKING PUMPED!
Lawrenceville Choir to Perform in Europe
The School's most elite choir, The Lawrentians, will be performing away their spring break, celebrating classical music in the cities where it all began.
Under the direction of Paul Summerlin, the Schools' director of Vocal Studies and Music Technology, 21 singers and six instrumentalists will perform in Prague, Czech Republic; Salzburg, Austria; and Bamberg, Germany. The students will also experience the local cultures of the countries they visit through a combination of sightseeing and fine arts performances.
The grand finale of the trip will be a return to Prague, where the choir will visit Mozart's grave and perform with a local college choir and orchestra in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth.
It has been many years since a Lawrenceville choir has taken a trip of this magnitude but Summerlin hopes it will not be the last. Already, he has seen how the tour has given the group a common bond and focus. "They've gelled as an ensemble," he said. "Travel opens people's worlds and that can't be anything but a good thing. It puts things in perspective from a musical standpoint."
Upon their return, the participating students will share their tour stories during an all-School meeting. Summerlin hopes it will give other pupils incentive to try out for The Lawrentians. "There are so many talented boys and girls at our School who are involved in arts projects both on- and off-campus," he remarked. "I hope that seeing that they might have opportunity to perform in Europe will inspire even more students to try out for The Lawrentians next year."
Honestly. How much does singing rock? With choirs, I've traveled to Italy, Canada, Newfoundland, Connecticut (that's slightly less exciting but was VERY fun), and now to the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany. Sing, people. It literally takes you places. I guess I can say I'm a world-traveled singer!
FELSEN AUF.
