"Actually, yes," Methos told him. "Do you have any idea what’s
bugging MacLeod?"
Joe shrugged. "I just watch him, I don’t read his mind."
"Damn," Methos answered. "Then, nothing unusual’s going on in his
life? No one challenging him? Bothering him? Dying on him? Is he...oh, I
don’t know...having money problems?" As Joe shook his head with a
bemused expression, Methos continued grasping at straws. "Celebrating
some Scottish day of defeat? Trying to earn a Boy Scout merit badge?"
Joe shook his head again, trying to stifle a laugh. "Sorry, can’t help
you. MacLeod’s life has been pretty quiet the past few weeks. Even
Amanda hasn’t stirred things up too much."
Methos looked up from his beer, seizing the bit of information.
"Amanda’s here?"
"Rolled into town a couple of days ago."
Methos considered quickly. "That must be it." Cheerfully he eased
himself off his barstool, smiling his thanks at the bartender. "I owe you,
Dawson."
