Why this must be read: The Good Student is beautifully written, with incredible descriptions, characterizations and plot. It’s unusual in Highlander fanfic because it introduces a student of Duncan’s other than Richie. In Under Color of Authority, Duncan sends Richie away after he killed Mako, something I didn’t understand. This story addresses why teachers send their students away. Although this isn’t a slash story, I definitely see some subtext. If you read this story, I don’t think you’ll forget the image of Duncan and Methos doing a grand salute with ice cream cones. Although this story is part of a series, it can easily stand alone.
