After some skilled manoevering, Tonks landed on her hands and knees on the roof of carrage one, and paused for a moment.
Bugger.
Nothing like a heavy landing to alert whoever was inside that there was something up.
Tonks paused to shield her eyes from the streaming wind, her face already streaked with soot. She had chosen her position carefully, and hoped to land just inside the connecting door of the carriage. Concentrate, now. Right.. Right, yes..
Down, about eight foot should do it.

~crack~

Immediately the howling wind died away, and it took her a moment or two to become used to the quiet. Wand drawn and at the ready, she opened her streaming eyes and looked about cautiously.
Ah.
Oopsie.
She shrugged. Well there were worse places to land she supposed. With a quiet sigh, she extracted one sodden foot from the toilet bowl and listened carefully. Apart from the relentless sound of wheels on track, there were no sounds, nothing to indicate that anyone was aware of her presence.
So far, so good.
Wand-ready, she cautiously pushed open the door labelled 'WC' and moved out into the narrow corridor.

The corridor is lit by lamps both within the compartments and spaced along the corridors. Between the lamps there are pools of shadow, and the windows are smeary and ghosted with reflections. The last compartment and the last lamp are in darkness, and a faint sparkle of lamplight from further up the corridor shows a scattering of smashed glass on the floor.

A Death Eater is here.

"What do you think I am, deaf? Drop your wand and move into the light."

Tonks had jumped, despite herself, at the sound of breaking glass and the sudden darkening of the corridor.
Yeah, I'm really going to do that.. Tonks thought to herself. I'm not deaf either matey, and you've just given your position away to me.
With a sharp jabbing movement she thrust her wand forward and cast;
"Petrificus Totalis"

There is a hint of movement in the darkness, and the soft crackle of magic hitting wood. From out of the shadows, a tongue of deep red flame licks out, briefly lighting the face of a crouched figure as it turns the air between him and Tonks into a tunnel of searing heat.

As the spell crackled past, there came the distinctive smell of burning wood.
Tonks ducked back inside the doorway, and inspected the charred and smoking end of her wand critically.
Oh.. crumbs..
It was ruined. There was no way she'd be able to cast anything with any confidence now. A cold sweat broke across her shoulders, making the tiny hairs at the nape of her neck stand on end. Now what was she going to do?
Perhaps there was something she could use as a weapon, or to create a distraction.. or .. or something?
Scrabbling about in the dark, her hand closed over something sharp, and she let out a small hiss of pain.
Bugger bugger bugger. Trust me to find the fire axe by the dangerous end...

...A fire axe?

That'll do.

With a slightly manic grin, she hefted the thing experimentally, then threw it with all her might towards the place where she had seen the crouching figure.

"Take that, boyo."

There is a meaty thud, and a noise best represented as urk.

There is a dead Death Eater here.

Tonks took a deep breath and leaned back against the wall, thanking providence for a good aim and a nicely weighted weapon.
Now what?
She tried an experimental 'lumos' and watched with forlorn hope as the magic fizzed and crackled, and died around her ravaged wand.
Intelligence had said that she would only have one guard to face. She hoped against hope that intelligence was right, because for the moment she was wandless and weaponless.
Cautiously she made her way up the carriage, pausing before each compartment and checking carefully, ready to dodge should any stray spell be aimed at her.
Empty. Every one.
At last, she reached the crumpled form of the Death Eater. "Nasty cut you have there matey."
Once she was satisfied that he had been neutralised, she reached for her floostick...
