Very nice, for both characters.

I'm curious about the collection of books that Adam was caught reading, though. Books and manuscripts, encompassing rare books and Medieval works, for the British Museum are held by the British Library, not the museum itself; though the Library is housed within the Museum (with new quarters for the Reading Room, darn it, so you can no longer work in the same room that Karl Marx used--but Giles was probably at the Museum when the Reading Room was in its old site), it has its own storage areas and staff who would police the stacks and collections. Curators and their assistants would have their own reference books, but those would be in their offices (and probably privately owned or on loan from the Library).

What is Giles a Curator of? How does he regularly come into direct contact with these annoying, enthusiastic students? Why would someone in such a relatively lofty position in the Museum be shooing students away from Victorian pornography down in the bowels of the Library's stacks, which books they could access by filling out a request through the Library desk anyway? The Library is heavily used by scholars, but it's not that hard to get an appointment. I needed a recommendation from my professor back in the day for access but it may be because I was an American and needed to see 14th century manuscript on a specific day. Technically, the Library is open to the public for research.

I'm assuming the books Adam is caught reading, since they're on open shelves, not archivally stored, aren't manuscripts dating from Medieval times but are reproductions or later books on the subject. I'm just saying it would be pretty tricky getting around the real staff and physical setup of the Library, regardless of the magical wards in that area.

I love the idea of the different Watcher societies being in contact, but I'd want a bit more background on Giles's situation. I love the idea of the British Library having a collection of books on the black arts.

ETA: Sorry, I was going on my old experience of the Library, before its new building opened in 1997. The last time I was in the British Museum, in 2002, I saw the reading room set up within the great court, which used to be the British Library Reading Room and is now the British Museum Reading Room. It was renovated and has a new ceiling/roof, but it's essentially the same room as the one that opened in the mid-1800s. I forgot that the Library's collection had moved. For the past few years, this version of the Reading Room has had books on open shelves other than reference volumes. The rare books etc. are still held by the Library in its buildings.

Damn! I'm looking at Giles's bio now -- how the HELL did he get to be a Curator at the British Museum if he dropped out of Oxford at 21? He must have gone back to school and done some serious, brilliant work in a short time to pull it off.
