In this journal we are going to keep you informed about the progress of the charity drive.
First of all, you might want to look at our profile. A lot of things are already explained there.
What is the deadline to get donations in by?
June 11th (we´ll leave the page open a bit longer so donations gone astray will find their way to Save the Children)
How much money do you want to raise?
We start up with $500 I´ve updated the goal to $1000. The new goal is $5000 seeing as it´s Hugh´s 50th birthday but basically the only boundary we have is June 11th as deadline. But, you know... the sky is the limit.
Can I let other people know about this? If so, how?
Yes, please! Spread the word! If you want to use graphics, check out this post where we have pretty icons and other stuff you can plaster your journal or page with. If you would like a text link to us, you can use the following code (replace the [] with <>):

I think I messed up the donating process or I´m generally not sure how it works. What do I do?
We have given a step-by-step discription of the process in the profile. If there are still problems you can contact cadeira or support@firstgiving.com
I don't have a LiveJournal! Can I donate?
Of course. Nothing about the donation process is LiveJournal specific.
What payment methods are there? Can I donate via PayPal/check or pay in kind?
Online only credit cards are accepted. The whole thing is really safe though because firstgivings uses a SLL-connection (VeriSign Secured) to process your data. If you don´t know what that means, just be assured, it´s, like, really really safe. Concerning the "pay in kind" you might want to risk a look at the next question and here.
UPDATE: You can now donate by personal check/money order!
1. Download the form here (drop.io) OR here (megaupload). If you have trouble downloading the document, let me know. I can mail it to you.
2. Fill it out and go to your bank/write the check. If you have questions about the process I´m sure your bank will assist you.

4. Please email me ( hughlauriebdrive@googlemail.com ) the amount you wrote on the check so I can update the firstgiving page manually.
UPDATE 2:
1) you can use a debit card but if you don't like using that online you can
2) buy a prepaid MasterCard or Visa Gift Card. They can be used online just like a regular card and they don't leave an electronic trail and you don´t have to provide you normal credit card number. Thanks poeia for the hint!
I'm broke. How can I help without giving money?
Spread the word. And, if you're artistically inclined, we could always use more graphics. Particularly usericons/avatars, if you're a Photoshop wizard who can do cool stuff that is beyond our capabilities. We welcome serious or funny, Hugh Laurie as House or in other roles. Hell, even other characters ("Jeeves would donate" or whatever). Just mention where to find us and what the drive is for. And needless to say, nothing offensive or derogatory. You can post any contributions in the comments of the graphics post.
If you're a fanfic writer, you could put a banner or link back to us in the latest chapter of your epic or your latest story. If you're really broke and yet really talented, you could even barter your services: offer to write a drabble, fic, make a graphic, etc. as a thank you gift to someone who can make a donation. See the Creations for Donations page.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Save the Children says "Gifts are deductible to the full extent allowable under IRS regulations."
How will I know that everything went alright with my donation ?
Firstgivings will send you a receipt.
Just one last thing:
It´s not that we suspect anyone of you being a spoilsport but nevertheless there are some common sense rules we would like you to keep in mind.
This project is supposed to bring everyone involved fun. That´s why we are grateful when people from different fandoms, boards and communities decide to join in into drive.
In whatever creative or monetary way you decide to express your fandom love, we don´t approve of hateful speech against people from other boards or communities (especially ship communities!).
Or... you get a rap on the knuckles.
