Get ready for an action-filled chapter 3~

Chapter 3:

Loud music, flashing lights, and smoke once again filled APM's doors as the club was unusually crowded that night, a rare sight ever since the ID sweeps started.  Well, it was understandable: the widely anticipated soccer match bewteen Brazil and Argentina was airing later that night, so many hardcore fans planned all-night parties to celebrate the match.  Kibum leaned against the bar counter, observing his customers with a careful eye, a habit formed from years of experience.  He checked his watch, which read just a little past midnight, and sighed.  It was going to be a long night, considering that the match did not even start until almost 2am.

One of his men walked up to him and whispered, "Kibum-goh, something happened.  Ah Leung got in a fight and he's in the hospital right now."

Kibum grimaced, but he quickly continued, "It seems like he was knocked unconcious, but he's ok now.  There's a problem, though.  He's in charge of recording the gamble deals on tonight's match.  But since he's gone, no one else knows the details, or where the deals will be kept.  Kibum-goh, what should we do?"

His brows furrowed, Kibum drummed his nails against the counter agitatedly.  After thinking for a few moments, he replied, "Then I'll take charge of it again.  Don't tell anyone else about this; I don't want anyone getting suspicious."

Kibum went into the back office and locked the door.  Quickly looking around him, he pushes the shelf slightly, revealing a hidden safe.  The safe was doubly safe: one had to both know the combination and have the key in order to open it.  He twirled the knob precisely and pulled out the key he carried on his necklace, revealing the most valuable notebook the club owned.  In it, records of all the gamble deals were kept, and if this notebook falls into the wrong hands, it would be detrimental to SJ's business.  Worn and tattered, it was proof of exactly how many illegal deals SJ has been a part of.

As Kibum is preparing to go back out to the club floor to ask his men about what kinds of deals they accepted, his cell phone rang.  Yesung calling...

"Hello, Yesung-hyung?"

"Ah, Kibum-ah.  Hankyung-hyung wants to talk to us at the billards place.  Can you come right now?"

"I don't think I can.  Ah Leung got hospitalized, so other than me, no one here knows the details of the gamble deals.  I need to stay, because there's a big game on tonight, so the club's full.  It's the perfect chance to get back our losses from the sweeps."

"Don't worry about it.  I'll send someone over to help you out.  Kyuhyun?  He knows the basics.  You should come with me to see Hankyung-hyung."

"...Are you sure?  Because if we mess this up...well, you remember how displeased Hankyung-hyung was last time.  I don't want that to happen again."

"I said, don't worry about it.  Kyuhyun knows what he's doing.  Just meet me below the billards place, and I'll wait for you before we go up there, ok?"

Kibum sighed, but relented, "Alright, Yesung-hyung.  I'll be there in a bit."

He hung up, smiling slightly at his cell phone.  In this power-hungry reality of triads and gangsters, most people only look out for himself.  Yesung, by all means, could have met with Hankyung without telling him, claiming whatever credit that he could.  But no.  Instead, Yesung would always try to include Kibum in any activities they did, spreading the credit amongst themselves equally.  Of course, gratitude was a big factor in Kibum's eyes.  Or is it something more?

Kibum fingered his tattoo thoughtfully.  It was a very small one positioned right behind his ear, unnoticable to an onlooker's eyes.  Unlike many tattooed gangsters, he did not get it for show.  No...he was not that shallow.  He would have liked to be drowned in thought, but if Hankyung was waiting, he did not want to risk being late.

He headed towards the door, pausing only to inform his own men that one of Yesung's men would be there shortly to take over the gambling deals of that night.  With that, he got into his car and sped off to meet with Yesung.

"Jaejoong-ah, are you nervous?"

Jaejoong looked at Yunho and replied, "A bit, I guess.  I mean, this is the first operation so far with OCTB that I've been on."  They were on the police car on the way to a street crowded with popular clubs, prepared for a night of ID sweeps.

"Don't worry; it's not that bad.  But I bet this beats reading files all the time, right?"  Yunho gave his signature confident, or borderline cocky, according to Jaejoong, smile.

"Of course.  I've been waiting to get into the action."  Jaejoong returned with an equally confident smile.  He had been waiting for a long time, too long of a time, for this opportunity to follow SJ's case.

The car lurched to a stop, and Kangin asked, "Everyone ready?  Then move out!"

They filed quickly out of the car, checking to see if their police badges were in place.  Once they were all set, they walked into the most popular club on the street: APM.

"Lights on, music off.  We are the Hong Kong police, Organized Crime and Triad Bureau.  Guys to the left, girls to the right: we're checking your IDs.  And I'd like to talk to your supervisor," Kangin shouted as soon as they made their way in.

One of the people scurried to the back, and a few moments later, a tall, lanky young man came out.  "What's the matter?  I'm the supervisor."

Kangin asked him, "What's your name?  What do you do here?  Let me see your ID."  Jaejoong took this opportunity to slide towards them, trying to learn as much as he could about OCTB and SJ.

"Cho Kyuhyun.  I'm the supervisor of this place, didn't you hear me before?  Or are all Hong Kong police deaf?" responded Kyuhyun, impatiently thrusting his ID forward.

Used to the rough nature of triad members, Kangin was unfazed, and instead cooly responded, "No, I was looking for a more specific response.  Or do all gang members have such a low brain capacity that they don't understand questions they are asked?"  Jaejoong was surprised at his immediate comeback.

"And how do you know that I'm part of a gang?  Do I have a sign on my forehead that says that I am?  You know, you'd better watch your mouth, ah sir, or I can complain to your boss about you.  Or even better...let's take this to the courts, and I'll sue you for libel.  Then we'll see who's laughing," Kyuhyun smirked, fully taking advantage of and abusing the rights of an HK citizen.

As Kangin turned away, talking into his walkie-talkie back to the headquarters to confirm Kyuhyun's identity, Sungmin shouted, "Hey, you!  Stop right there!"  He immediately rushed off, leaving Jaejoong wondering what had just happened.  He noticed Kyuhyun's surprised expression, as if he was not expecting to see Sungmin there.

Sungmin rushed through the groups of people in hot pursuit, crashing and knocking glasses down as he went.  He passed by a few of the VIP rooms, losing sight of his target for a few moments.  He breathed heavily, trying to regain his breath, before hearing some water sounds off to his right.

He immediately tried the doorknob, but it was unfortunately locked.  Sungmin backed up a few steps before kicking the door down violently with a bam!, revealing a messily clad man trying to flush a packet down the toilet.  Before the man could escape out the door, Sungmin wrestled him to the ground, handcuffing his hands behind his back.  Being careful to put on gloves, Sungmin examined the packet.  The man had been trying to flush the white powder in the toilet, and although he had come in a little late, there was still a considerable amount still left in the plastic packaging.

Sungmin grabbed the man and marched him out to the entrance of the club.  "Kangin-sir, I caught this man trying to escape out the back.  He was flushing this," holding up the plastic package, "down the toilet."

"Good work, Sungmin," Kangin replied, nodding his head in acknowledgement.  Eunhyuk came forward and handed him a larger plastic bag, which Kangin took and placed the powder package into.  "There should be almost 500g in here, enough for you to be jailed for a long time.  Well...take him back to the station.  Our work here tonight should be done."  He looked towards Kyuhyun and smirked, "So...Kyuhyun, is it?  I guess you'll have to drop by the police station right now so that we can question you.  Is that ok?"

"Of course, Kangin-sir.  That's the responsibility of law-abiding Hong Kong citizens, right?"  Although his tone was light, Kyuhyun's hard stare indicated his true feelings.

"Alright then.  Move out!" Kangin instructed his team, as they filed out of the club and back onto their cars.

Meanwhile...

Stopping the car with a slight screech, Kibum saw Yesung leaned against the wall, facing away from him.  His attention seemed to be completely focused on his cell phone.  Could it be some important exchange?  Is that what we're here for tonight?  Kibum thought, excited at the prospect of having this responsibility.

He got off the car quietly, and sneaked his way towards Yesung.  He peered over his shoulder and...

"Yesung-hyung!  And here I was thinking that you were doing actual work!" Kibum exclaimed, breaking his usually cold exterior and laughing.

"Omo!  Kibum-ah, you scared me there!  And...it's not like I work 24/7; I need a break sometimes too," Yesung replied, also laughing while saving his game of Frogger, Turtle Edition! on his cellphone.  "Well, since you're here, we should head up.  You know that Hankyung-hyung doesn't like people being late."  Kibum nodded and they headed towards the building.

They made their way up on the elevator in silence, both nervous whenever they had to meet with their boss.  Although Hankyung seemed nice at times, there was no doubt that he was the head of SJ in Hong Kong.  He was much more serious about the business than their higher boss, Leeteuk.

A soft ding indicated that they had reached the correct floor.  They stepped out, and a neatly clad man dressed in black indicated for them to go inside.  Wow...fancy.  Did Hankyung-hyung get more bodyguards?  Kibum thought, slightly uncomfortable at the situation, although he had been in the business for quite a number of years already.

They walked inside, passing by the public billard rooms, all the way until they reached the back office.  Yesung knocked politely, and they entered when they heard Hankyung respond.

A fleeting surprised expression crossed Hankyung's face when he saw Kibum, and he looked at Yesung questionably.  Yesung quickly answered, "Yes, Hangeng-goh, I asked him to come along too.  I remembered that you said you would be speaking with Kibum tomorrow, but since he was free today, I thought it'd be better for us to meet together today.  I'm very sorry if what I did was out of line."  He bowed his head, heart beating rapidly as he waited for Hankyung's response.

A few tense moments passed before Hankyung waved his hand, sending his remaining men out of the room before shutting the door.  He let out a breath before saying, "No, that's alright.  But next time, I would appreciate it if you let me know of what you're planning before you take any action, Yesung.  I shouldn't have to remind you about such...small acts of discipline, do I?"

Yesung gulped and hastily answered, "Yes, yes, of course.  This won't happen again."  A bead of sweat formed at his brow, which he wiped away nervously.

Kibum looked at both of them, confused at their short yet powerful dialog.  So was I not supposed to come here today?  But then why would Yesung-hyung go against Hankyung-hyung?  Before he had any more time to think, Hankyung already moved on and said, "Well then, now that you two are here, I supposed that's alright because I wouldn't have to say this twice.  You remember what I had told you at the hotpot place a few days ago?"

They both nodded, the memory of being a part of a drug deal clear in their minds.  "Well, another batch is coming sometime near the end of the month.  And this time, I want the two of you to be in charge," Hankyung said seriously.

He continued, "I've discussed this with Leeteuk-hyung already.  Both of you have been loyal members of SJ for many years now, working hard for our business.  It's about time that you guys go into...the more profitable side of our dealings.  Do you think that you're ready for this responsibility?"

Yesung and Kibum looked at each other before confidently answering, "Yes, we're ready."

"Ok, I trust you.  But...just having me trust you isn't enough yet.  Leeteuk-hyung admires both of your abilities, but he still doesn't place his complete trust in you yet.  That is why...I'll be giving the two of you different information.  I'm going to inform Yesung about the location and Kibum about the time of the dealing.  Later, I will contact you individually to tell you about the rest of the information.  This way, if either of you leak the information out, the police won't know all the details.  Understand?"

They nodded, and Hankyung indicated for Kibum to wait outside.  As Kibum closed the door behind him, his cell phone rang.  "Hello?"

"Kibum-goh!  Something happened at APM!  Some guy got caught with drugs, and now both him and Kyuhyun got arrested!"

"Woah, slow down.  What exactly happened?  How was Kyuhyun involved in this?" asked Kibum, confused at the onslaught of information.

"The police had another ID sweep today, and when they were here, one of the guys tried to run away through the back because he had an entire package of drugs and the police caught him.  And since Kyuhyun was the supervisor today since you were gone, the police took him back to the station too for questioning."

"...Alright, I'll deal with it when I come back.  But before I do, don't do anything else, alright?" Kibum hung up before he got a response.

He turned around and punched the wall angrily.  Right when Hankyung-hyung starts to trust me more, this has to happen!  How is he going to trust me when we are actually a part of the drug exchange?  He paused as a sudden thought hit him.  But wait!  Yesung-hyung told me to come here, but it seemed like Hankyung-hyung didn't expect that I was coming?  Why would Yesung-hyung risk displeasing Hankyung-hyung?  ...Did he know that this was going to happen, so he didn't want me to be the one arrested?  So Kyuhyun took the blame for me?

The door opened suddenly, revealing a worried Yesung.  "Are you ok, Kibum?  I thought I heard something happen out here," Yesung asked, his hand on Kibum's shoulder.

Kibum eyed him carefully, trying to see if he was hiding anything.  But Yesung had been in the business for too long: nothing could be read from his eyes.  But before Kibum could say anything, Hankyung's voice could be heard from within, and so he excused himself from Yesung.

At the police station...

"Jaejoong-ah, pay attention during the interview.  I don't think you've had that much experience questioning people like them, but remember to keep your cool at all times.  They may be gangsters, but they still have all the rights an ordinary citizen has.  Got it?" Yunho asked, prepping Jaejoong for his first police questioning.

"I know.  Keep it cool, right?" Jaejoong smiled, but it faltered under Yunho's gaze.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of it.  Just write down whatever they say, and that's all you have to do.  Although, knowing them, they won't say much, because they're afraid that they'll give away any kind of information."

Jaejoong nodded, and they headed into the questioning room, where Kyuhyun was sitting.  Jaejoong and Yunho sat on the other side of the table, and Yunho said, "You have the right to remain silent, but anything you do say will be recorded and may be used in court.  You may wait for your lawyer to arrive, or if you do not have the money to hire one, the government can provide you with a lawyer if you wish.  Understand?"

Kyuhyun remained silent and firmly affixed his gaze towards the ceiling.

Yunho continued, "You are Cho Kyuhyun, correct?  Where were you and what were you doing between the hours of 10:00om and 12:00am tonight?"

Silence continued to fill the room as Kyuhyun determinedly ignored their questions.  After a few futile minutes, even Yunho gave up.  A light knock on the door interrupted the questioning.

"Mr. Cho, your lawyer has arrived to bail you out," an officer said, with Kyuhyun's lawyer following behind him.

Kyuhyun finally broke his silence and said, "About time.  Well then, I'll see you next time, officers.  Although...I'd rather not."  With that, he followed his lawyer out of the room.

Yunho threw the file onto the table angrily.  "All that for nothing.  Sure, we caught the guy with the drugs, but he won't say anything about how this is linked to SJ.  They must've bribed him for his silence."

Jaejoong patted his shoulder comfortingly.  "It's alright, Yunho-ah.  We'll get them eventually.  Good will always win over evil."

"But 'eventually' may be too late.  What if we hadn't caught the guy?  Then those drugs would have gotten on the market, harming who knows how many more people," Yunho replied gravely.  Jaejoong could only respond with silence.

+~+~+

Jaejoong hid by the side of the station, and saw Kyuhyun come out with his lawyer.  After a few brief words, they separated and went in opposite directions.  Jaejoong took this opportunity and went up to him.

"Kyuhyun?"

He turned around and asked impatiently, "What, officer?  Didn't ask me enough questions back there, so now you're here for more?"

Jaejoong swallowed before continuing, "No, it's not that.  I'm not in the station right now, right?  So let's be a bit more comfortable."

Kyuhyun sneered and replied, "But aren't policemen and gangsters not supposed to be comfortable?  You never know...I could completely ruin your file."

Jaejoong took a deep breath before responding, "Not if I were Sungmin."  When Kyuhyun did not respond, he continued, "Yes, I know about you and Sungmin; it's in your file.  Weren't you best of friends before?  How'd he go into the police and you into a triad?  And I saw your reaction tonight at APM.  I'm guessing you haven't seen him for a long time, and that wasn't exactly the best place for a reunion."  Jaejoong kept rambling on, sounding much more confident than he felt.  He knew that he should not be revealing this kind of information to anyone, especially someone directly involved with SJ, but he wanted information.  Both for the case, and for his own reason.

Thrown off-guard, Kyuhyun asked nervously, "...What do you want?"

"Information.  I know that you've been in SJ for quite some time now, but you can't quite get a higher position.  Your bosses just keep bossing you around.  But if you give me information, you won't have to listen to them anymore-"

Kyuhyun cut him off.  "And what if I don't?  I won't betray SJ easily."

"Then the only way you can see Sungmin is in our questioning room.  But I'm sure that's not what you want, right?"

Kyuhyun paced nervously around him, hands squeezing each other.  After a long silence, he shook his head.  With a heavy sigh, he asked, "What kind of information do you want?"

With a smile, Jaejoong simply stated, "Yesung.  I want to know everything about Yesung."

Notes:
- I wanted to update this sooner, but lots of stuff have been happening lately, so I never got around to it T_T  But no, I am not (and will not) giving up on this fic.  Updates may be a bit slow, so hopefully you guys can bear with me ^^
- Jaejoong's parents sent Jaejoong to Hong Kong to study, but they didn't move there with him.  That's why he's living in HK alone (well, later Ah Sum joins him) ^^  Sorry if it wasn't too clear before >_<
- Soccer is totally huge in Hong Kong.  I went to HK when it was the World Cup, and seriously...the entire city is in an uproar LOL.  As in...malls and shopping centers will set up TVs and chairs so that people can watch the game anytime.  And since the games are always late at night (due to the time difference), yep, the malls are open late at night too, just so that people can drop by to watch :)  I'm a MAJOR fan of both Brazil and Argentina, so of course I would put them in the fic ^^
- Mmm...not many notes this time.  All I want to say is that...again, there was another part that I wanted to put in this chapter, but it got too long, so please look forward to a yebum filled chapter next time XD

pairing: yesung/jaejoong, fic: heaven's trio, pairing: yesung/kibum, fandom: super junior
