The thing that happened:

I shouldn't have even had it in the house. I knew it was supposedly toxic to cats, but I didn't realize how toxic. This misinformation was probably due to the fact that we actually kept a different breed of lily in the kitchen for years with no adverse effects to our cats, so even though I always heard that they were bad, my own experience worked against me. I didn't really expect him to be interested in it, either.

In retrospect, we were incredibly lucky: I walked in on him eating it and had the presence of mind to google the details. Holy crap, you guys. Don't even *touch* an Easter Lily if you have a cat - that's how toxic it is. Coming into contact with the *pollen* could kill them. Our plant is currently sealed off in the entryway, awaiting its demise and dripping poisonous sex juice - seriously, it's disgusting. Maybe I'll take a picture. It's very sinister.

Anyway, I was fortunate to catch my boy mid-snack and get him right to the emergency vet. He was there for three days getting treatment - there's no antidote for this kind of poisoning; the only thing they can do is try to help the toxins pass through his system without destroying his kidneys. As of now it looks like he's going to be okay, but he has to have his kidneys checked again on Monday to be sure.

Meanwhile, our other cat, Beezus, had expressed a lot of interest in the plant, and there was no way of telling if she'd injested any of it. By the time we became aware of the danger, it actually would have been too late to treat her (the general consensus seems to be that if you don't do something within the first 6 hours, your animal is toast), so I spent basically the entire week terrified that she'd go into kidney failure and die, and that it would be entirely my fault. She's fine, still, so that's good.

So that set me back about $1400. I refused to let anyone else cover the cost, because it really *was* entirely my fault. *I* bought the stupid plant. *I* put my boy through that. Cosmo and I have been together nine and a half years. I love him more than I love most people. And I almost killed him, so. I had a hard time with that.

This was on top of the other stuff going on, the most alarming of which is that my grandmother is still recovering from her own emergency life-or-death surgery. Her hip was somehow broken while she was either sitting in her wheelchair or lying in her bed - suspicious, huh? But she's better now: she was sent home (well, to her room in the nursing home) on Thursday night.

Which is to say: the week is over, everyone's still alive, let's party. I am so done being worried.

I love that Jason Segel icon but I swear I haven't even used it *once*!

Things I learned while doing this meme: I have way more text icons than most people. I think I may have more text icons than most people have... icons. Also, I have a lot of icons that feature two characters, but they're usually *not* of my OTPs. My OTP category is missing some important information due to this. Oh, well!

You should all do this, btw :)

so that happened, memes
