Shiny!

Whoopsie, looks like a month flew by without me pausing to post. Hmm. I seem to do that a lot. Well, this month was mostly better than last month. I hired 2 new interns, neither of them bat-shit insane, so that helped. We just wrapped up another fundraiser, the Big Sur Bird Bash, spearheaded by our lead intern. It went pretty well all in all--the entertainers all donated their time, playing for free, which was awesome. Lots of Big Sur locals turned up to support us, we raised money for our programs, there was good food, and I only had *two* conversations with seriously chemically altered people. It was wonderful, great, etc., and my god am I glad it's over. -_- We had a pretty good turnout, but I bet it would have been even better if the local free paper, with whom we'd been coordinating this event for MONTHS, would have printed the right date in their ads! Good one, guys. If you put down the bongs for a minute, you might actually print something accurate! Just like real reporters!

Aaaanyway. Nellie & I have been spent the last week & a half watching Firefly, which (like so many things) elicited a "Why have I not watched this before?!" reaction from me. I actually remember catching bits of it when it originally aired, but for some reason it did not grab me then. Well, I know better now because OMG SO AWESOME. I swear, I come late to every party. The ensuing feature film was cool and all, but those 15 little episodes are where it's at. And suddenly, the text on countless SGA icons makes so much more sense.

I also rented the first disc of the equally short-lived show Nowhere Man which aired on UPN like 10 years ago (god I'm old). I remember loving that show so much, because it capitalized on the conspiracy craze started by XF. Like almost every show that ran one season, it ended with a cliffhanger, never to be resolved, and I was heartbroken. In re-watching the first three episodes, I have to say...I really see now why it was canceled. Eeesh. Gaping plot holes much? I guess when I first watched I was so enamored of the "everyone is out to get you--no seriously, every single person you meet" premise that I ignored the sheer ridiculousness of it all. Or I was just dumber back then. The show's music is great (go Mark Snow!) and I found that I still like watching Bruce Greenwood as the justifiably-paranoid protagonist...something about his hair always intrigued me...but in the DVD interviews he has aged 10 years and it ain't pretty. Ah well. Not everything can withstand the test of time, I suppose. Next on my list of one-season wonders: Strange Luck. Still not on DVD yet, but I have faith that it will be someday. Oh yes. Someday.

In other news, this weekend I have done nothing. Nothing! Last night I spent hours and hours over at Pitchfork Media perusing their article on 100 Awesome Music Videos. Normally I avoid that site and their whiny pretentious yammering (blahblahblah indiecakes) like the plague, but this...this I can get behind. And it led me to what may be the greatest video ever created; an absolutely astounding cinematic masterpiece. Yes, it's...

David Hasselhoff's "Hooked On A Feeling".

Fly, David! Fly like the wind!
