I'm baa-aaack! Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated, etc etc. You know the drill. I would go on about how these past two months were a whirlwind of international intrigue, exotic locales, fast cars and faster women and how I was caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse where the price of failure was high: my life...but we all know that I've been lying around every weekend in my pajamas watching downloaded episodes of SG-1 and consuming pints of Chubby Hubby. Not a hint of intrigue to be found. No sirree. One can safely say that my life is intrigue-free. *nudges the sniper rifle and box of passports back under the bed*
But it's been a while, eh? My sisters visited last month, which was a hoot and a half. Indeed, GriffCon '06 was a roaring success, even if two-thirds of the attendees were felled by a mysterious plague that resulted in one party member losing her voice for a day and being forced to communicate with a notepad & pencil. But despite all that we managed to have fun, and the urban-dwelling siblings got a much-needed taste of nature. They got to hold birds, we saw Condors, and Meg petted a stingray at the aquarium. Plus we watched
"Hillbillys in a Haunted House", which was insane.
Work has been all right...we got a new intern this month, which meant that we were able to catch up on data entry for the first time since last September. I am not lying when I say that when the interns told me that the backlog of data entry was complete, tears of happiness sprung to my eyes. You know you're in trouble when you literally WEEP WITH JOY over something like that. But in other work-related news: spring migration has officially begun! We banded our first returning
Wilson's Warblers this week, and the
Warbling Vireos are back. Yay!
And now is the time on LJ when we squee about random TV crap.
On House, fanon is rapidly becoming canon and I'm loving every minute! House/Wilson 4-eva OMG they're roommates and Wilson cooks and House loves it despite himself and they're the original odd couple! Bwahaha! Also, I have picked up a new show thanks to Nellie: Bones. I actually really like it. And I think I have my first new het pairing since X-Files. Which isn't too surprising considering Bones pushes many of the same buttons (she's smart and kicks ass and he's a tall, dark and handsome vampire FBI agent). We've also started Netflixing Farscape, which I can't believe I've never watched before. And a couple of weeks ago I suddenly decided that I was suffering from cartoon deficiency, so into the queue went Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry (yay cartoon violence!), and Batman: The Animated Series (yay cartoon noir!)
In not-so-good news, stress levels are very very high as Nellie & I race to get our abstracts written for the
NAOC in Veracruz this October.
We have to get them in tomorrow because we're going out of town on Friday (we're going to Yosemite for 4 days!), and I haven't actually done any data analysis or lit searches and I'm having these horrible flashbacks to Wellesley and last-minute papers. And my reaction is exactly the same as it was back then: "Okay, I have an insane amount of work to do and the clock is ticking. I think I'll take a nap!" So I slept for a couple of hours while Nellie worked. Then I dorked around on the internets (and wrote this entry) while Nellie worked. And now she's going to bed and I still haven't done anything. Good god. But my brain is refusing to cooperate so I think I'll have to turn in as well. Fresh start in the morning and all that.
In other news, I love
mutecornett's SGA fanart. I mean, I LOVE it. I want to marry it and have its babies because oh. My. God. So amazing. The latest pic is incredible but may favorite is probably still Picnic on Cat Planet.
