People scrambled on the sidewalks. Businessmen without umbrellas shielding themselves to the best of their ability with their briefcases while dashing toward the train station. A gaggle of children with their bright colorful umbrellas and cute yellow hats splashing through rapidly growing puddles on their way home from school. Young girls squealing as they all huddled under the too small overhang of a building, hoping to ride out the sudden downpour.

"You ordered the mocha espresso right?"

Koyama turned away from his people-watching through the large, street-facing café window and shook his head, a small bemused smirk on his lips. "Don't tell me you actually forgot your own order now."

YamaPi set the cup and plate in front of Koyama and then slid into his seat, a tall glass of milk tea before him, straw just peeking out over the edge. "I didn't, but I thought it might be nice to ask instead of going, 'HI KOYAMA. HERE'S YOUR ESPRESSO.'"

"You wouldn't have done that," Koyama maintained, lifting the cup to take his initial sip.

"No, but you looked thoughtful." YamaPi glanced out the window momentarily, finally noticing the rain. "Wow. It's pouring out there. Glad we found this place before that."

"Yeah," Koyama agreed, his voice a little listless and occupied as his gaze returned to the window. The downpour had hardly let up, pounding down upon street pavement, nylon umbrellas and any poor victims traversing through it.

A pronounced silence fell between the two, YamaPi sipping on his milk tea and watching Koyama caught up in his thoughts and the rain, rather subdued and withdrawn compared to his normal light and upbeat self. YamaPi was a little concerned. He hardly saw Koyama like this. He didn't particularly like seeing Koyama like this.

"You called me out because you wanted to talk to me?" He eventually asked, bringing Koyama out of his trance to look back at him instead of the random people in the rain.

Koyama took a moment to focus before he answered YamaPi. "Yeah. Have you talked to Ryo-chan lately?"

"I have. Busy with Kanjani8's tour and stuff. He was just in Tokyo two days ago for some photo shoots though. We went out for yakitori."

"That's good to hear." Koyama nodded with the softest of smiles. Instead of setting him at ease though, it only made YamaPi more concerned than he had been before. "How are you doing with GYM?"

He hesitated, biting on his straw, buying himself time. "We just finished laying down the vocals for 'Fever to Future'. Choreography practice starts up next week." YamaPi paused, unable to take this uncharacteristically depressed Koyama anymore. "…Koyama, what's going on?"

Koyama's head dropped at YamaPi's pointed question. "Nothing."

YamaPi arched his eyebrow and gave Koyama a hard stare, despite the fact that Koyama could not see as he was too occupied with stirring around what was left of his espresso with his spoon. "Really now?"

Koyama sighed heavily and then pushed aside his coffee cup, looking up at YamaPi once more. "You ever get the feeling like this is never going to end?"

"What's never going to end?"

It took awhile for Koyama to say it, but once he did, everything made perfect sense to YamaPi.

"Hiatus."

And in that moment, hearing Koyama utter that word in that grave, almost near desperate voice, YamaPi realized for the first time that even the heart of NEWS, the one that had pledged to keep on beating and believing, could go through moments of doubt and anxiety as well.

the end.
