All by myself, with the piano at the house where I babysit and a pencil and some paper, I figured out the accordion part of Rufus Wainwright's "Hometown Waltz." I pecked it out on the piano, wrote down the notes, figured out the measures and note counts and drew myself little music paper and put notes on it. And then I came home and hauled out the squeeze box and tried it, and it worked, with minor adjustments.
I am so very pleased with myself. My neighbors are probably less pleased. But still, considering I don't really read music and haven't played the accordion more than three times in the last two years, I say it's a spiffing achievement.
Still can't do the left hand. Either my accordion's really out of tune or I'm not remembering which notes are which or go with which right-hand notes. Oh well. I'll bang on that tomorrow.
