Man, I have to retweak my LJ icons. I had been paying for the extras, but I let them expire, and LJ just randomly deleted close to 40 icons, and some of them were ones I use for really specific circumstances. Like, you know, the hiyakittehs, who are very cute, often get used to comment on posts about other people's pets. And sometimes you just need a hobbit icon. Etc. Anyway, I have to spend some time prioritizing and reorganizing things.
So--good news from my quarter recently.
First, my reproductive system has finally started doing its duty. Thank goodness. That was really, really annoying. Amazing the amount of stress I took from checking for signs of my period every single time I used the bathroom. So much better now.
Second, my sister-in-law had her baby! A girl, which we knew. Her name is Raven Louise. I'm relieved at how happy I am about it. I mean, I knew I would be happy for them, but it's been such a hard thing to witness and talk about after finding out about it so soon after my miscarriage, and then June was rough, because we went to visit them right after I found out that no, in fact, I wasn't pregnant--my period had just gone AWOL--and hanging out with the 8-months-pregnant lady made me pretty emo.
Third, my niece got her bac results this morning, and she did really well! 14/20 overall, which is well above average, and she did spectacularly in her English (19/20 written, 20/20 oral) and her German (17/20) and did decently in Spanish (13/20). All her other marks were between 11 and 15, except Literature, which she says she just hadn't studied the text well enough and knew she'd biffed the exam when she took it. Anyway, the upshot of this is that her parents (having consulted me and Marc) have given her a trip to Chicago as a reward for finishing high school! So she'll be out here in September, which will be fantastic. She called a while ago to say thanks for hosting her and to tell me how excited she is about it. I am, too, as I love her dearly. I think it will be really fun to have her on her own--we've always been in large family groups, and she and I get along famously, so I think we'll pretty much have a blast.
Fourth, I actually spent time with my husband! Between his guitar camp trip in the middle of June (which I encouraged and don't regret), followed by two weeks of getting home past midnight (including one Friday night), I had only seen him for about three waking days with him since the second week in June. He got home from the latest trip Thursday afternoon, went home to bed, and then had Friday through Monday off. So I got three full days with him, and by Saturday he'd recuperated enough to be identifyable as human again. SO NICE.
Fifth, Scout's urine came back clean, which is good. Unfortunately, probably means that I lugged the wrong cat over to the vet this morning, and Minou is probably the one with the bladder infection. I'm waiting to hear from the vet, but I suspect I'll have to drag her over there today. Sigh.
Still--four out of five isn't bad. I'm still calling it a good week.
