Time. Like, if the power goes out and you have to reset your alarm clock, and you want to wake up nine minutes before whatever time it actually is? You have to set your clock ahead, not behind. Lesson that I did not learn Wednesday night, and so when I also failed at the concept of turning on the alarm and woke up on my own at 7:50, it was actually 8, and by the time I got out of the shower, it was actually 8:15.
Electricity. Like, if you put in two air conditioning units in an apartment in a 100-year-old building, you will blow/crash/whatchamaverb the circuit/fuse/thingdealie. Which means you will have to climb down the back stairs in the dark in your pajamas and fumble around in that spider-ridden basement until you find the right circuit/fuse/thingdealie on the breaker and flip it back. Note that because you've done this once a summer for six years and you STILL never remember you can't run both ACs at once, the circuit/fuse/thingdealie will blow/crash/whatchamaverb for a second time, even though you'd unplugged one of the ACs before going downstairs, just to teach you a lesson. Repeat the PJ-clad, spider-ridden trip to the basement.
Motivation/Initiative. Like, if you go to bed having edited the chapter of the story you're going to post, and right as you're starting to fall asleep, you realize that there's a better way to edit this one sentence, and you have to add ONE word to it, just get up and walk the 10 steps down the hall to a pen and your notebook and write yourself a note. Or, better, keep a pen and paper by your bed. Because calling your cell phone, waiting through 10 rings and voicemail, and leaving yourself a message? Is a) pathetically lazy and b) takes more time than walking down the hall. As evidenced 30 seconds later, when you had an idea for a later chapter and got off your ass and wrote it down. Took almost no effort at all. Sigh.
Paying attention while posting fic. Like, remembering to refer to the little list of things to do that you made up to avoid having to edit entries to comms over and over. Using links not lj-cuts in comms. Flocking comm entries for NC-17 chapters. Stuff like that. Do not piss off the mods with your stupidity.
Right. 8:01. Brush your teeth, comb your hair, find some shoes, go to work. You have a Ev0l Project of Doom call at 9:30, I think. And even if you don't, you've been late every day this week, and people are going to start noticing.
