Wow. So I think it's Monday night, yes? And my keyboard is American again, which is why my commas keep coming out as n's and vice versa.
Right. I was supposed to be home yesterday, but that didn't so much happen. The airport was pure insanity Sunday. It took us two hours just to get to the hand-baggage check (a total of no more than 100 yards from where we started our journey in the line). And then an hour and a half of waiting to board, and then two hours to board the plane. Except that I didn't board because the flight was seriously overbooked, as American Airlines is allowing anyone to change their reservations at no cost until September 1. Apparently many people had changed since Thursday.
Bottom line, they really, really wanted my seat. My mom and aunt stayed on our flight because their connections were on Southwest, and American wouldn't pay the second leg of their trips. So I got to wait through the unending loading of the plane, then go get my suitcase, then get my new ticket issued, then wait for the shuttle to the hotel, then drive to the hotel, then watch a combination of CNN, MTV, and dubbed CSI until 11 a.m., when I got back on the shuttle to the airport to start the process all over again. There were many fewer people at the airport today, and it went a bit faster, but my 3 p.m. flight still didn't take off til 5:30. In brief: LONG 48 hours.
But, on the positive side of "in brief," I now have a voucher for $800 worth of AA travel within the next 12 months, which is exactly why I acquiesced to their firm invitation to be bumped: Now I know how I'll pay for my January trip (skiing) and may even have some money saved up for later-that-year travel to other exciting locations.
It wasn't all bad. The other person who got bumped was a very sweet American kid--18 or 20--who didn't speak any French and was trying to finance a trip to Hawaii. So we went through the airport together yesterday, had dinner together last night, and spent today at the airport together. Very nice kid. They needed one seat today, and he volunteered again so he could take his best friend to Hawaii with him. So at least I had someone to talk to, which was nice.
I have to get through work somehow tomorrow--not thinking about that yet--and then I will try to get my pictures (mostly of buildings, did I mention that? I think it's probably psychologically significant) transferred and uploaded, and spend some quality time with David Tennant, and, oh! I found a copy of Joyeux Noel at the duty free store, so I can take a few screencaps of Babe/Robin's brief but adorkable turn. And him as a frozen corpse, too.
Right. Food. Kitty love.
OH MY GOD I totally forgot to say that when I came in tonight I had the panties shocked right off of me because Captain Jack Sparrow was standing in my living room. Yes, friends, the Magic Tree has determined that my life is absolutely the most pitiful, and I have been granted sole custody of the Cap'n Jack lifesized standee. He is most wonderful.
