on "living canon" and the siren call of spoilers

Here's a thing I hadn't considered about entering/embracing a new fandom: Spoilers.

I haven't been seriously engaged in a fandom with a live canon since Buffy went off the air. And by "engaged" I mean thinking about it a lot, speculating on what might happen, being impatient to see the next installment because ohmygod I have to know what happens ( Read more... )

*sigh*

I really, REALLY need to see BSG. If the Firefly DVDs somehow found their way into my local pirate joint distributor, why shouldn't this one?

You guys don't get Cinemax? They showed the miniseries and Series 1 on Cinemax Asia like middle of last year. I caught a couple shows, just to drool over Foley and imagine him in sickandwrong situations with various 1st Platoon individuals and battalion officers.

Our cable service is called Kabelvision. The way it works is that once you sign up you get a primary package which includes basic channels such as CNN, BBCworld, MTV, ESPN, StarWorld, StarSports, and the like. If you want to get the movie channels (StarMovies, Cinemax, HBO) you have to buy an "add-on" package, which adds a certain amount to the monthly fee you have to pay. Right now we already have two add-on packages and are in the process of contemplating getting another one (with the movie channels in it), so maybe in the near future we'll get it. :)

Which also means we'll get to see HBO's "The Pacific" miniseries, rumored to have its premiere this fall.

And Clint Eastwood's "Flags of our Fathers" in pirated DVDs theatres this fall. With (!) Ryan Philippe and Jamie Bell (!) among others.
