A mix for Verses Thursday (but without, you know, verses)

Jan 12, 2006 15:08

I'm totally cheating today, because only four tracks of this mix have any words, and none of those are in English. But what the heck, I'm feeling a little crazy today.

As previously mentioned, I spent the weekend obsessing over Battlestar Galactia and downloaded the various soundtracks for it. As with much film/TV music, it can get a bit repetitive en masse because the themes repeat and vary throughout. I spent Monday and Tuesday cycling through it (great reading/editing music), and then yesterday I was overcome by the desire to have a honed-down playlist of my "Music of Few Words" playlist, which is about six hours of film scores.

So, for Verses Thursday, I share with you my new playlist, which I'm calling "Fandom Score," for reasons that should be fairly obvious. I have arranged my favorite tracks from the scores of movies and TV shows I love. Many of you probably have a lot of these. I'm posting a yousendit link to a zip file with all of them in it, which may take a while to download. If you want individual tracks, let me know and I'll send/upload.

Fandom Score zip file

1. "Passacaglia" -- Battlestar Galactia, Season 1
Some "important" sounding music to start with.
2. "River Tricks Early" -- Firefly
I will never stop loving the oboe in this theme. And the happy/funny/sad that is River. Sigh. I hate you, Joss.
3. "Battlestar Operatica" -- Battlestar Galactia, Season 1
Hee! First: It's pretty! Second: It's punny!
4. "In Memorium" -- Les Choristes
Now I'm in a vocal mood. More choral music is in order, I think. But still in a language I can easily tune out.
5. "Les Avions En Papier" -- Les Choristes
6. "Going for a Ride" -- Serenity
Let's kick it up a notch, shall we?
7. "The Plaza (Mainly on the Plains)" -- I Spy
It's slightly groovy and continental, but yeah with the kickin' theme at the end. Wow. I do believe Kelley and Scott were my first slash OTP.
8. "Battlestar Muzaktika" -- Battlestar Galactia, Season 1
That pun isn't getting any less funny to me. Plus, I love the idea of elevator music in space.
9. "River's Dance" -- Firefly
Kick your heels up!
10. "Jim's New Life" -- Empire of the Sun
Now dash about your prison camp, enjoying your life in spite of the prison aspect.
11. "The Thousandth Landing" -- Battlestar Galactia, Season 1
More happy music, but with a slight turn for the missile-crash at the end.
12. "The British Grendiers -- Empire of the Sun
Ah, little boy soldier dreams. Great whistling music. And I love how it fades into Jim's mother's piano playing.
13. "Toy Planes, Home and Hearth" - Empire of the Sun
I love the homesickness of this piece. I tried to split the songs up from their siblings, but these last two are MFEO.
14. "Many Meetings" -- The Fellowship of the Ring
I think this is my favorite version of the Fellowship theme. It's so gentle and dreamy and still has some good, solid hobbit to it.
15. "Kip's Lights" -- The English Patient
Another two that need to be played back to back.
16. "I'll Always Go Back to That Church" -- The English Patient
You know, for all the Big Drama Love of Almasy and Katherine in their flashback of Doomed Love and Adultery, my true heart belongs to Hana and Kip, and most of that is thanks to this scene.
17. "The Wooing of Catherine" -- Henry V
More new-love music. Best love story told in three minutes of screen time ever.
18. "Let the Rest of the World Go By" -- Out of Africa
Robert Redford will never be as sexy as when he's wearing evening wear circa 1920.
19. "Parapluie" -- Band of Brothers
Prettiest war scene and war music ever.
20. "Funeral / Rebuilding Serenity" -- Serenity
I hate Joss, but I love the music played over the mop up after the event that has rendered him Dead To Me.
21. "Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra in A" -- Out of Africa
Revision: Robert Redford will never be as sexy as when he's wearing safari gear circa 1920 and playing Mozart to baboons. (Good thing I don't have the soundtrack to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid because ... well, you can the internal struggle that rages.)
22. "Austria" -- Band of Brothers
Pleasepleaseplease stop killing my boys and just let them lie around in the sun all day pleasepleaseplease.
23. "Concerning Hobbits" -- The Fellowship of the Ring
Pure, unfettered, hobbity joy.

And there we are. If any of you bother downloading it, I hope you enjoy.
