Okay, so Christmas is coming in. I've got most of my family covered, but I need advice on my neice. She's 13 and very much so. I wanted to get her some music, but I can't get her to tell me what she listens to. "Stuff," she says. I'd like to get her some good new music that, you know, teenagers like. But I also want it to be good. This summer she was wearing out her Maroon 5 and Avril Lavigne CDs--very poppy, both. I was thinking of Gorillaz "Demon Days," which I've heard bits of myself and really like/covet, but I'm not sure it's appropriate for a 13-year-old--it seems a bit dark, and I think she'd have a really hard time understanding the lyrics. Any of you heard the whole thing and have comments? The other one I'm thinking about is Beck's "Guero," which I know and really like. I'd say the new Franz Ferdinand, but a) I haven't gotten around to listening to it yet and b) I want to get her a real CD, not a burned one off of iTunes or elsewhere, and I know that one has the evil SONY BMG hacker's delight.
So. Help, please. What are some good, newish albums that are poppy enough to grab a 13-year-old, but that aren't just crap music?
