"Why are you speaking American?"

Oct 23, 2010 23:39

I am reading my friend's study notes. They are good study notes. She gets good grades, like if a good grade was an A, then she'd get an A.

Anyway, I'm reading her notes, right, and I can't help but notice the HUGE (and I mean a numerous amount of recurring) number of errors in her notes. Not factual errors, otherwise she would not be getting all 9s up in the GPA (the scale here is 0-9), but spelling errors. Typographical errors. Punctuation in the middle of the word, after the space, words spelt wrongly, WORDS SPELT WRONGLY DIFFERENTLY EACH TIME.

Which made me stop to think. This does not happen very often so I had to pay attention. Why is it that, when some people make a typo, they typo the same word differently each time? And if you don't know what I mean, allow me to shine the enlightening source of illumination on you. To wit, let us say I wanted to spell "majestically." If I were the sort of individual to make an error of spelling, I would write, "The horse travelled magestically over the range."

And on another occasion I would write, "The Queen majestikally rose from her throne." (Not the best example, but it'll do.)

Note the difference. So I can't help but wonder why someone can manage to spell something wrongly differently each time.

Let's have a poll.
Poll typographicals

Pardon me, I've had a lot of Rowntrees.

I would also like EVERYONE to take in this fantastic and hilarious video of Christine Latham and Jennifer Nobis of the Boston Breakers having a conversation with Alex Scott and Kelly Smith, also of the Breakers. I'm a year and a half late to this but HEY better late than never (that's what she said), right? It's so funny it rivals a KFlay book review.

And last but not least, South Korea beat Australia 2-1 to win the Peace Queen Cup. This tournament has been THE most ridic tournament to find footage of, especially live. I attempted to navigate the circles and lines of the Korean language (see how much I love you, football?) but in the end the circles became nooses and the lines became canes with which to beat me the heck out of there. "And I ran, I ran so far away..."

ANYWAY, England drew NZ 0-0 which was why Korea made it to the final. There is/was another England-NZ match today, but as per the Peace Cup usual, I don't know what's looping. Oh well. I expect the result may or may not be easy enough to find.

A happy weekend to you all.
