"Hi Shaun,

We have received a request to permanently delete your account. Your account has been deactivated from the site and will be permanently deleted within 14 days." (Emphasis mine)

Good riddance, that's all I can say. 14 days can't come soon enough.

for the sake of my IP, my security, my privacy, for the sake of the open web and open source development, and for the fight against facebook's monetising data (royalty free, mind you)

Possibly an overreaction? Better safe than sorry. Don't really trust a company that refuses to let you scrub yourself from their database with ease (if account deletion will even result in that), and has no qualms with supplying personal information (which you have signed over to them, royalty free!!!) to other developers that may/may not be secure to begin with.

As it stands, at the moment it is a stand I am taking based on my personal conviction as I am sure at the moment I have no information on Facebook that will be of any particular use (or detriment to myself, as the case may be).

As you may know, most people on facebook are dumbasses that will go around tagging anyone in anything irrespective of the wishes of the people they are tagging. It's just one of the many reasons I do not like having to deal with people. You cannot control for their stupidity/lack of concern or consideration/obliviousness. I am aware this is a two-way street, but if I remove myself from this equation it is effectively protecting both myself and the person I may have been inadvertently harming.

So fuck you.

So I have hopefully been leading a boring enough life that Facebook does not have enough on me to actually make that much money, but since it is so easy to monetize stuff (all you really need to do is look at past behaviour on facebook, for example, and sell this information to anyone who may be interested... kind of like spyware and key loggers that YOU ACTUALLY CONSENT FOR), so I have no idea just how much money I made for them.

Also, last time I checked "open" did not mean proprietary douche-fags. in the interest of being politically correct, or as politically correct as relative anonymity on the internet allows for, douche = douche and fag = cigarette.

Umm, what was I talking about again?

Yeah, Facebook, I don't like you. You provide me with no utility and all you do is take take take, and you can sue me if I provide you with false information, and you can use information about me provided by dumbass "friends" on facebook, and the sooner we do away with Facebook and Human Beings, the better.

END

PS: And if you are interested in deleting your account for GOOD, keep in mind the 14 day period is a grace period in which your account is treated as a normal deactivated account. SO BE CAREFUL, even if you do not go to facebook to sign in, if you use anything on any other website that requires facebook login (such as using a like button), it will log you in, reactivate your account, and override the delete account request.
