ah, rich corinithian text.
Here's a hunk of a review for Exorcist: The Beginning.
the technical versimilatude of The
Exorcist is what made it a classic, and furthermore a singularly
unmatchable cinematic achievement because of the time in which it was
made--technology would soon improve the technology of filmmaking with digital
audio and nonlinear editing to make the labors present in The Exoricst
accessible, easy-to-emulate, almost pedestrian? Perhaps were it not for the
film itself, a masterpiece of the nuts-and-bolts of filmmaking that clearly is
just as grounded in The Way They're Doing It as What They're Doing.
So then there's Renny Harlin/Paul Schrader/John
Frankenheimer's Exorcist: The Beginning, wherein What They're Doing is pretty
fucking obtuse until it's fucking shallow. Then It then you can leave.
Woe be unto fans of the Exorcist Sequels: You are
Brave, You Are Dedicated, and I bow to your superior ability to rationalize.
Exorcist II was evidence that even reliably original directors are capable of
making stillborn films. The writer of the original novel directed the thrid
film, based on his own sequel-novel, which was interesting for the latter-day
George C. Scott lead, and a peak at what a more-direct adaptation of the
original book might have been like. Exorcist III was even *creepy* and often
quite funny, either intentionally or accidentally (who knew that Fabio's brief
role would become this hilarious cameo?), but it deviated rather substantially
from very simple roots.
For a third sequel, the focus shifted to the
adventures of the titular character, a weary, detatched archeologist named
Lancaster Merrin, played with conviction by Stellan Skaarsgard. The many
problems this film suffers, including the rather arbitrary nature of his
character arc, cannot be blamed on him--occasionally hammy, the entire cast
performs amiably when the material allows for it. Seldom.
and I kind of derailed but I should be getting back to it this weekend.
At this point I am also burning a CD so the typos and grammar errors
may come hot and heavy as there is one hell of a delay--for example, as
i'm tying this word right now the screen is on the word "typos"
so this is, like, the girl says, what I have to work with. Bear
with me.
this black album doesn't want to burn properly. the gray album you will enjoy a great deal more, anyway.
hey, deb's online.
Anyway, it's now two august horror sequels I've seen on thursday nights
for free--Maybe there's a Seed Of Chucky screening happening next
thursday. the gamut!
We had a guest speaker in school this week. a tan giant of a man
in sandals and swim trunks and no wedding ring. He's been laying
it down on the Court Reporting scene for 10, and he says it's uphill
but the rewards are phenomenal, it's a court reporter's world, and I
asked him two important things, and for got the thirdbut based on the
answers to one and two I think I can deduce that his answer to number
three would serve to quell my fears and reservations
I believe You. Believe me. please.
The weekend will see a variety of sights, sounds, and sensations.
I am very lucky to have the people in my life that I do.
