This was also my entry in the Church of Lemons 2010 - it's finished now, so I can post it wherever I want. Just in time for White Day! This is a sequel to my first HitsuMatsu fic, which I wrote for CoL last year (I also posted it here. The link's in the opening credits)

SUMMARY: (modern-day AU) sequel to ‘Forsaken’. Rangiku Matsumoto gave up years of a happy, Sex in the City-style love life to build a family with her oldest friend and first lover. But after she discovered a shattering betrayal, she found herself creating a whole new bond with her teenage stepson. Several months later, Rangiku now has to choose; between the first person she ever loved, and the man who she knows will love her forever.
AUTHOR’S NOTES: This is a sequel to ‘Forsaken’, which was an extract from a longer prospective story. (find it at http ://community. livejournal. com/hitsumatsu/88496.html Just take out the spaces) But to clue in those who haven’t read it:
Rangiku and Gin met as children in the foster care system, and became each other’s sole emotional support, until 16 year old Gin conceived Toshiro with another girl. After his mother died, Toshiro was raised by his Granny, though here she really is his maternal grandparent. A child prodigy in theoretical physics, Toshiro won a full scholarship to Tokyo University at the age of 15, but he could only attend Tokyo U if he moved in with his father, who he’d met all of a dozen times in his life. Gin and Toshiro don’t get along very well (in the same way that canon Aizen is ‘a little ambitious’), as evidenced by the fact that Toshiro’s still using his mother’s name. Unable for various reasons to just dump him back on Granny, Gin had the bright idea to persuade Rangiku to marry him. As Gin became more and more distant, Rangiku and Toshiro became closer, until Toshiro fell head over heels in love. Roughly a year after the ‘real’ story began, Toshiro decided it was time to precipitate matters and sent Rangiku the photos that proved that Gin had been unfaithful, which sent her directly to his bed.
'Suno-Kusabana' is MEANT to translate as 'Snow Blossoms'. Whether it actually does, however, is something only a Japanese speaker can tell me. (my 'japanese for fun and travel' course didn't really cover this sort of thing.)
I’ve also played fairly fast and loose with Japanese marriage law and US citizen and marriage law. Authour’s license.
SOUNDTRACK: ‘Scarborough fair’ by Celtic Woman while Rangiku and Toshiro are at dinner; when they leave it switches to ‘Futatsu no Kodō to Akai Tsumi’ by On/Off (otherwise known as the OP to Vampire Knight Season 1).
