need some music, sick of the same old thing

Apr 07, 2006 17:45

New time in my life, need new music.

Any suggestions? I'm going to buy myself a new cd soon, but I don't have anything specific in mind. What are you guys listening to right now that's particularly awesome? Oh, and I don't care if it's new or old, as long as it's new to me.

I've been listening to this a lot. It's not new, but good. anonymous April 8 2006, 00:53:23 UTC

there's this one bright eyes song i like called the bottom of everything

actually come to think of it, there is one particular song of each of the above that i really like. not too sure about the rest of their stuff

the go! team's LadyFlash

The tenement halls' plenty is never enough

i hope you like it too

i guess you could always download it first before buying it

Yeah, I think I'll spend the weekend downloading sample songs and then do a little album shopping on Monday...

Thanks for the suggestions!

I was just now downloading some songs and putting them in my library and I saw that the last album that Josh added is by The Go! Team and has the song that you recommended!

god i know the feeling. i was almost glad when my hard drive got destroyed so i could start over.

the weakerthans' album 'reconstruction site' is great. really interesting lyrics. one song is called "Over Retired Explorer (Dines With Michel Foucault In Paris, 1961)"

luna is always good. (esp. 'penthouse' and 'romantica')

neko case!

guided by voices!

the castanets are pretty interesting. and devendra banhart has some good stuff.

if you've never heard the fiery furnaces, you might like their first album, 'gallowsbird bark'

Hey! I actually considered buying a Fiery Furnaces album in the used record store I was in today. I knew I had heard of them, but wasn't sure if I had actually heard them. The whole "I've heard of this band, but can't remember where at or who from so I don't know if I have a good excuse to buy their cd" was what I went through in the record store over and over again today. Which, of course, spawned this post.

I can't remember which of their albums it was that the store had. Maybe I'll go back Monday and see if that's the one. I'm going to make a list of all these suggestions from everyone so that I have something to go by...

are you familiar with rufus wainwright? he's awesome.

i just ordered wilco and badly drawn boy. i'll let you know what i think. they should come in this week sometime.

who else? jeff buckley, the flaming lips, nick drake, elliott smith (though he can be depressing). mike sport murphy is really good but not very well known. but i'd definitely check out rufus. any of his albums are great, but i think my favorite is poses. want two is really good too. hell, they all are.

I <3 The Flaming Lips. I've actually been listening to them a lot lately.

I've definitely heard of Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, and Elliott Smith, but I've never listened to any of them.

I looked up Badly Drawn Boy and he sounds pretty interesting.

i used to be totally obsessed with elliott smith.

badly drawn boy is definitely pretty good.

nick drake is very sweet and touching. i like him.

don't know much about rufus or buckley, only heard a song or two for each, but i have liked what i heard.

wilco is always good. have you been into the shins?
