Hmm...today's Thanksgiving! And where am I? At work! >.< Granted, I had yesterday off, but it's just not the same w/out the turkey. Boo...
To make up for it though, I decided to do a Thanksgiving lesson plan today. This happened last year too, but I'm always surprised that many times students don't know what 'turkey' is or what it tastes like. During one activity, a student raised her hand and asked what turkey meant in Japanese (she thought it meant the country). So, without giving her the direct translation, I did an impromptu drawing of a turkey with my hand like how
ilikea did in
her post. Now, I suck at drawing so of course the students got a good laugh out of my measly attempt at drawing a turkey, but they got the idea. Also taught them how to say "gobble gobble!" Just picture of room of 20 Japanese high schoolers shouting gobble gobble and you get the idea of how hilarious this lesson was. :D
Otherwise, I'm doing ok in terms of missing Thanksgiving. Sure, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays (ok, they all are, so sue me) but it seems like most of my family isn't gonna be having any celebrations anyway. My sister and her husband just left on vacation for Italy this week, and I guess my parents aren't even gonna bother cooking a turkey this year. V_V So not like I'm missing much anyway.
Anywho, even though I'm stuck with my rice and sho-chu in the land of the rising sun, I hope everyone else enjoys their Thanksgiving holiday this year! Be sure to eat an extra helping of stuffing for me! :)
