Equus?

So, earlier today, expedishous and I were "eeeeew"-ing over the DRad's nekkie pictures with the horsey. Until very recently, I had no idea what Equus was. For some reason, I thought it was some Harry Potter convention, maybe named after some obscure Harry Potter spell.

"Equus" does sound like it could be a Harry Potter spell, doesn't it? So, tell me, if it were indeed a spell, what would it do?
