Athena and I adopted a dog from a rescue organization on Sunday. He's an Australian Shepherd mix, our first mutt. =D Sometimes he looks like the Australian other times like a little German Shepherd and when he's sleeping with his paws scrunched up against a wall he looks like a Welsh Corgi.
Things we have learned about our new dog so far.
He has a very sweet personality.
He appears to be housebroken.
He doesn’t chew on things he’s not supposed to when we’re gone. When we’re working on other things and he wants attention from us, that’s a different story.
We need to get a giant pack of rawhide bones, he’s already almost completely finished one off.
He’s a ball dog, he likes to pounce on it. We may still try a Frisbee out some day.
He likes to bounce rather than run around the backyard.
It takes him a while to get out of bed early in the morning.
He’s good with kids.
He can get a bit mouthy when he rough houses, we’re working on that.
He doesn’t lick a lot, but he likes feet and hands.
He hasn’t barked since we got him, there were a couple soft woofs but nothing really vocal.
He has some sort of issues with doors going in or out of them, it’s like he doesn’t like to pass through them. He’s learned about clear sliding doors the hard way, twice so far.
He likes to look at himself in the mirror.
He gets sleepy during car rides and doesn’t bother looking out the window, he just lays down. Again with the door thing here, doesn’t like getting in or out.
He doesn’t like bath time.
He’s almost got 'heel' down, now we just need some more time to work on some other commands. LOL "Achilles heel".
He doesn’t know how to ask for things. I kept wondering why he wandered toward his water dish and didn’t drink. I finally went over to take a look and it was empty. =/
In other news, due to stress from work I woke up with and anxiety attack early this morning. I'm surprised it took this long to get one of those. I'm also glad my bathroom is now attached to my bedroom instead of across the house. =/
