Maryland Sessions

Dec 01, 2004 10:53

Today is Wednesday, December 1, 2004. It has been a while since I updated. These past few days have made me a more mature, and experienced person. First off, I’d like to apologize to Kaylee Smith for the stupid journal entry about her. It was unnecessary and not all that funny. From now on I will use this journal for the sole function of documenting my daily behavior. Also, I’d like to explicate a little story to everyone who reads this Livejournal. This is a long story indeed, but it tells of a magical journey to a forbidden land, where three courageous men battle the gods who created session, only to take session as their own and hold it in their names. This is the story of the Maryland Session:

I have just recently returned from a little adventure down south to Maryland. We were in Hagerstown, Maryland to be exact. Words fail me when it comes to the explanation of the times I had there. I traveled down there with a certain Allen Colella, by means of Stephen Manley's older brother, Jacob Manley. The deal was that we would leave during the evening of Wednesday, November 17th.

Wednesday, November 24, 2004: I was awakened by a phone call telling me that we would leave that very morning. I rushed to get my things ready and called Jessica to tell her that I was leaving earlier than expected. I packed my shit, got Bryan's amp, called Allen and went to go and pick him up at his house with all of his shit. I got home, said my goodbyes to Jessica and the house and the dogs and whatnot, and when Jake got there, Allen's mother called. What a big surprise considering she is the bitchiest, most concerned mother on the planet (No offense, Allen). Anyway, after that was all said and done, we departed for Maryland, with only a 5 hour car ride ahead of us and all of our worries back in Syracuse behind us. I had absolutely no idea of the times that were to come. The car ride was long, and yet relaxing and enjoyable. It rained the entire time, but I didn't mind it.

When we got there, I was happy to see Stephen and Jonas waiting for us. We were a bit later than we should have been, but earlier than if we had left later on that evening. The trip took a little over 6 hours. After getting the gear and everything inside, we decided it was best to have Jonas take us somewhere to eat. The first stop was Popeye’s chicken. It was expensive, so after conversing for a long time in the front of the restaurant, we left and went to Taco Bell. Food was there and it was as if it was waiting for us. We ordered a Grande Combo, had a session and then left to go to the Martin’s grocery store because Jonas wanted something sweet to eat. I walked into the wrong entrance to Martin’s and while we all were walking around the store Allen and I made horrible growling/back of the throat creaming noises like retards, we entered the frozen food section and debated whether or not to get ice cream sandwiches or bars or fudges. I really didn't give a shit, but I was happy to be out of the car after being in one for 6 straight hours, so I kept my mouth shut. After that, we left and went to Jonas's house. I played on his 88-keyed top-of-the-line Korg Triton LE. Stephen and Jonas both played Halo 2 on Jonas’s X-Box while Allen sat on the couch while I played on the Triton. It was unbelievable what that man could play on the piano and even more mind-blowing to hear the cool effects you could use with his Triton. And in top of that, he had an amazing computer with dual monitors and a fantastic sound system all just for recording his songs with his keyboard. He used Sonar to do this recording. Complete session at Jonas's, and then back to Steve's. On the way back, we passed a street labeled "Gay Street." I thought it was funny and said it out loud. When Allen knew what I was talking about he burst out laughing and proceeded to laugh the hardest he'd ever laughed in a long while. Jonas dropped us off at Steve’s to go hang out with his girlfriend, and we went down into the basement for the remainder of the night. We hung out a bit and then decided to go outside and tape a few things. We traveled outside and walked to some guitar store because Allen wanted to see it, and on the way there we pushed each other into a flower bed full of rocks. Then we walked to the Western Sizzlin’ restaurant and I jumped into a dumpster behind it. After I walked over to Halfway Boulevard and ran in front of a car. It was then that some stupid asshole that Stephen knew pulled into the parking lot of a bank that we were just passing and Steve ran over and talked to her. It was two girls and a guy. While they talked, Allen and I sat on a guardrail near Halfway Boulevard and after a while, Steve called us over to talk to them. We met them, talked for a bit and then left. We walked down Halfway Boulevard until coming to a hill. Allen and I clambered down the huge, steep hill to a parking lot near a K-Mart and got into a fake fight. Stephen taped it. During the right Allen had found a shopping cart and we took it to have fun with. We went to McDonalds and then I ruined a sweatshirt and a pair of pants while we fooled around with the shopping cart that we found. After that, we walked back to the bottom of the hill to some railroad tracks and we followed them back to near Stephen’s house. When we got off the tracks Steve gave us horrible directions and he somehow managed to get us lost in his own fucking neighborhood. It was incredibly fun nonetheless. I took off my clothes and ran around the street because it was very nice out and it seemed like the right thing to do. When we finally found our way back, we went to bed. And our journey had only just begun.

Thursday, November 25, 2004: We woke up and got ready to go to Stephen's aunt's house for Thanksgiving. It was a massive 1700's house and it looked very homely and warm. It was a good time. We all held hands in a big circle and Steve's uncle said a prayer. I had never done anything like that in my life, but at least the food was good. We taped a few things and then thought it would be fun to walk to Rob’s house. So we left to go to Rob's house just over a hill from Steve's aunt's house. It was very windy. On the way there, I found a lawn mower in a baseball field and thought it would be a fun idea to ride it on tape. I sat down on it and got the back of my pants soaked, and then Stephen said we would do it later and we continued to Rob’s. When we got there, Stephen took a shit in Rob’s bathroom and I played Rob’s bass, while Allen and Rob watched. After that we left and did some swinging on a swing set. Allen thought it was hilarious that I tossed my hat to Steve at the exact moment that the wind blew extremely hard and whisked my hat really far down the lawn to the apartments near Rob’s house. When we were finished swinging we went back to the lawn mower in the baseball field and found out that it had no keys. When we left, we walked to some schools and taped shit. We climbed up a water cooler, got in a fight on a hill, rolled down the same hill, pretended to shoot each other with guns, smacked each other, Allen screamed in my face, smashed bottles and worms, and we all made hilarious noises all throughout the entire ordeal. I thought it would be funny to run across route 81 because it was so close to us near Stephen’s school, but then later decided I didn’t want to die just yet. I ruined another pair of pants while rolling down a hill with Allen and then we went back to his aunt’s house to eat desert and then we left. When we got back to Stephen's, Allen and I noticed that Stephen’s computer room was a horrid mess. We spent a little over four hours cleaning the entire room. Dusting, vacuuming, wiping, we even cleaned his computer monitor and keyboard, to give you an idea of how deep we actually did clean. After we were finished the room looked 100 times better. We thought it would be fun to go outside and tape some more funny things. We walked to Sheetz, a gas station with really fucking good food. It was fucking Jamzzzville City: population Allen, Stephen and myself. We had a major session and we all ate some sandwiches from the MTO sandwich area. I had a steak, egg and cheese shmuffin, Allen had some South America cheese steak sandwich and a root beer, and Steve had something that I cannot remember. It was wonderful. Allen bought me Chap Stick and we all left to go eat our food outside. While outside and said something like, “Fuck Maryland.” With the intent on dropping the cardboard container to the Chap Stick in a puddle, but what actually occurred was; I dropped the Chap Stick itself into the puddle. Allen and Steve laughed and Steve said something like, “Maryland just fucked you.” It was too windy to eat our food away from the building so we walked back to the building and finished eating. Allen spilled his food all over the ground because it was such a messy sandwich. After that we tapped us screaming and then taped Allen and I explaining to the camera what we had just done, for the purpose of documenting out vacation, and then we went to Food Lion and found out it was closed. While walking back to Steve’s from Food Lion, we found a massive vacuum. It was the kind at a gas station that you normally use to clean out your car. We used it to amuse ourselves and we got it on tape. Allen flailed it around violently and then ran away, and I picked it up and rolled all over the ground with it until my leg went into a giant puddle of mud and water. Puddle of mud, pssh. Stephen thought it was really funny and then told me to suck up the water. I did so, and after doing it some guy walked up to us and asked us for a lighter. I sucked off my pants and we left the vacuum on the ground, still activated. After that, we all went back home, played in the computer, watched Jurassic Park, and then went to bed

Friday, November 26, 2004: The next morning, Allen and I woke up to Stephen on the computer. We played guitar for a while and then took our showers and got ready for the day. Then we went to Carpenters, the guitar shop near Stephen’s house and Allen bought some new guitar strings after we looked around a bit in the store. He bought a pair of Gibson POWERLINES, the closest that Maryland had to offer for Allen’s thick-string necessities. After all of that bullshit, we went to the Hagerstown Valley Mall and walked around. After walking for a bit we went to Subway where I proceeded to have a turkey and tuna fish sub with provolone cheese, all on hearty Italian bread. When we were finished, we walked to some pay phones and Stephen called Jonas to see what we would be doing that day. Jonas said that he was going to his friend’s house to watch Star Wars, and Stephen was very upset. There was some talk about a show that was to occur on that night and Allen was the only one who wanted to actually go to it. After walking around the mall and taping in some store, we walked to a piano store and then to FYE. Allen and I made loud obnoxious noises and then Stephen saw two girls that he was friends with. They talked for a while, and I showed Allen, “AN EVENING WITH JOHN PETRUCCI & JORDAN RUDESS,” a fucking awesome compact disk. After that, we got a ride home from one of the girl’s grandmother. When we got back to Steve’s we thought it would be best to go to this show. We organized what would happen online and whatnot and then everyone got ready for the show. Stephen's mother drove us over to Sarah's house to get a ride from that point to the show. When we found out that Sarah had left with Michelle and her mother already, her father offered to give us a ride there. We beat them there, and went inside to check out the band equipment. After a bunch of bullshit, they showed up. It was Sarah and her friend Michelle. I had no idea who either of them was, even though I had met Sarah the previous visit in Maryland. I also had no idea of the massive shit storm that would ensue from me being even the slightest bit friendly to Michelle, but I soon found out later on. I talked to them both briefly here and there, until the show began. Some shitty band opened and played some cover songs. They were a little less than alright. My Winter Nerve was the following band. They were more than fantastic. I stood there and watched them play for the entire time and when they were done I was very impressed by their musical skills. Earlier I had said something to Allen about one of the bands there being the best one. My Winter Nerve was that band. I enjoyed my time there very much and at about 10:40 or so, Sarah's mother came to pick us up. We went to Sarah's house, so that we could hang out outside for a little while and then we walked home. We taped some shit, and then Sarah's father told her that she needed to come in. We said our goodbyes and we left. There was talk about sex and sluts for the entire time we walked. After the walk we went to Stephen's house and crashed for the remainder of the night. I had a lot more fun that I thought I would, and I thank Allen for making me and Steve go to the show. After talking for a while, Allen and I tried to sneak out a window but failed horribly. We ended up breaking the window off the hinge and because of Stephen's brother sleeping directly above us; we could not put it back on, for fear of waking him up. It was freezing outside so I just rammed a bunch of Allen's clothes in the window and we went to bed. Allen and I stayed up during the night and talked about things that will not be revealed in this Livejournal. Secret things were said by both of us that no one can know about. Let's just leave it at that.

Saturday, November 27, 2004: The following morning, we had no intentions of doing anything important whatsoever. Allen and I woke up to Steve on the computer again and then I went online. We just hung out and played guitar until Sarah Instant Messaged me and asked what we were doing that day. We decided that it was best that we all hung out once again and so they said they would be at Stephen's house in five minutes. None of us had taken showers yet. So I quickly took a shower, and when I got out they were in Steve's room. After getting dressed and ready for the day I then went into the basement to play guitar, while Steve took a shower and the other three remained in his room. After a good solid two minutes, Michelle walked into the basement and asked me to play guitar. I played for about 130 seconds or so and then went upstairs into Stephen's room where I told Allen and Sarah to come downstairs. We all went down there. They watched a bit of television and I played guitar. After a while Steve came down and we all watched our tapes that we had so far. It was yet another session. Fun times were had as we watched Wild, Wild West. CRAZY SESSION. The girls went home at 5:32 P. M. exactly. I went on the computer and talked to Jessica for a while, and Stephen’s mother made dinner. It was pasta with sauce, and garlic bread. It was very good. After that, we went back to Steve's aunt's house to enjoy another desert. On the way there we stopped at Food Lion, and I got some doughnuts to eat and some gum to chew on. When we got there we tapped more, and then we ate apple pie and pumpkin pie with whipped cream and then tapped yet again. We then walked around Williamsport for the undertaking of the most amazing night ever. We ventured down through the town and then over a bridge and to the Potomac River. COLOSAL SESSION ensued. We found a massive hill, and after we each rolled down it separately, Allen and I laid on one another and rolled down it as one. It was quite possibly the biggest session of the time we visited there. We did many other things such as rearrange the lettering on an outside church display box so that it spelled out "SHIT" and "FUCK." Very good times. After all of it was over, we went back to Steve's aunt’s house. It was at this time that we deemed it necessary to stay up the entire night, because we would be leaving the following morning to go home. After saying goodbye to Steve's aunt and uncle, we left to go to Food Lion once more and purchase soda. Allen bought Mountain Dew: Twisted Black, and Mug Root beer. We went home and drank the sodas. I got in a huge fight--that had already been brewing--with Jessica, and pitted Jessica and Michelle against each other. It wasn't fun and it was retarded and it all started because some people are annoying and other people are fucking assholes. Now I'm not one to name names, but I will...Justin and Jessica. Allen played guitar during this and Stephen watched television. After all that was done, I was so tired I had no idea what to do. It was about 4:00 in the morning; Allen had already gone to sleep on the couch and Steve was up in his room sleeping, so I slept on the floor.

Sunday, November 28, 2004: I was awakened by Jake, early Sunday morning and was told that we would be departing soon. I had an overwhelming feeling of sorrow sweep over me knowing that I would be leaving in just one hour. I packed my things, washed my face and brushed my teeth. Steve tapped a little and then gave me the tape. It was incredibly sad leaving, and we all thanked Steve and his mother and said goodbye. It was a very emotional moment for everyone. We got into the car, and departed for route 81 to take the same route home that we took there. We drove for a while, I slept because I did not get much sleep, we had a session with Steve’s brother, which only made me more tired and then I slept until we got to Syracuse. The entire ride, I thought about how much fucking fun I had in Maryland and what a good place it is. I had a fantastic time in Maryland. Everything about Maryland is new and pure. It’s almost as if Maryland and the people of Maryland are way back in the 1400’s. I did not want to leave that place at all. The memories that I have of that place are never to be reproduced. I had such a magnificent time there; I never wanted to come back to Syracuse ever again. This was THE BEST by far vacation that I have ever had in my entire life. Stephen and Allen couldn't have been more fun. I got to see Jonas again, and Rob. I cannot even express into human language what a fantastic time I had in Maryland. It was more than I could ever ask for. Thank you to everyone that made it possible for me to go to Maryland and to everyone that made it such an undeniably fun time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people the contributed to the session that took place in Hagerstown Maryland during this past Thanksgiving vacation:

Stephen Manley, Diane Manley, Jacob Manley, Stephen's aunt, uncle and family, Jessica Lynn, Allen Colella, Jonas Dawson, Mr. and Mrs. Dawson, Jonas’s sister, Robert Stancliff, Mr. and Mrs. Stancliff, Rob’s little sister, Sarah Ryan, Michelle DiBona, Mr. and Mrs. Ryan, Mr. and Mrs. DiBona, my mother and father, those other girls in FYE, that nice old lady who gave us a ride, the guy who sold Allen his Gibson POWERLINES, the people we met at the Bulldog Bank, the entire state of Maryland, and anyone else who I forgot but needed to thank.

It was a miracle of a session, and it was all completed by the three young men that will remain friends for the end of time. The friendship that resides in the hearts of these brave lads will forever beat on, be stilling a power in the Earth that far outshines any other form of happiness. For Stephen Daniel Manley, Allen Joseph Colella and Justin Spaulding are all three further connected and closer together in their companionship, because of this wonderful experience that we all shared together. Thank you again for such a great time Stephen. You and Allen are both very incredible people and I respect you for who you are as individuals and as faggots. Nothing will ever surpass this fateful Thanksgiving vacation, on a fun level or on a session level. I am very happy with everything that occurred during the entire experience and I hope to do it again in the near future. Episode one: Justin Allen and Stephen show Maryland what New York is all about. Episode Two: Coming soon, to a session theater near you. Holy shit…good times.

This Livejournal entry is dedicated to Jacob Manley, the man with whom none of this would ever have been possible. Thank you, Jake and may god bless you while you are in your state of need.
