Just so you know, your version of the Jacob-Richard-Esau dynamic is officially my personal canon. I will honestly be disappointed if the show takes an entirely different direction with them, because this is perfect, really, and I can't see how it could get any more interesting.

“I have told you,” he coaxes, taunts - he is, proudly, the instigator between them; where Jacob would wait in patient silence until the ending of this world and the birthing of the next, he could never manage such restraint. Alpha and omega, yin and yang - they were never meant to overlap, only contrast; oil to water, the rainbow on the surface, but never underneath. “I have always told you.” I love this. I really hope we get more insight into their relationship next season, see how they play off each other, because it's bound to be fascinating.

And of course it’s raining - of course it rains; wash away the plague of death upon paradise, and only life remains. I may be mis-remembering, but I think there's a common motif of rain in some of your Richard& ( ... )

Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed this - to the point of thinking of it as your personal canon, wow! - and yes, I am rather attached to Biblical and water metaphors with these characters, you're not mis-remembering ;)

Very nicely done, I really like the characterisations and the way Jacob takes to Richard. But I really love the observation of Esau that it's Jacob that's changing into the 'human' from mere presence.

Thank you - I seem to be overrun with Jacob-Richard-Esau story lines in my head, and I've been mulling this one over for a while, now, unsure if I thought it worked with what we know of the characters or not; but I kind of liked it, and so I went with it, so I'm particularly glad that you liked it, as well :)

I was seriously in the mood for some Richard/Jacob tonight (no idea why) and read this for the first time. It's gorgeous! You write such a good, cold Esau. And poor Jacob. So desperate for Richard, so loving. This pairing will never fail to break my heart.

Thank you so much, dear -- I'm so glad that you enjoyed this, and that you thought this version of Esau worked. Because, well: I do like to play with his characterization quite a bit, and test him out in different roles and scenarios... but, admittedly? I very much enjoy writing him like this :)
