Good eats in Cincinnati!

I continue to be impressed with the quality of food throughout the country these days. We had a nice little vegetarian menu at what is generally considered the top restaurant in Cincinnati on Tuesday, Orchids (at the Hilton). The food was quite nice, but sort of safe, and the service was spotty.

Then last night we tried dinner at a place I had found through sheer luck. Local 127 does the local and ethical producers approach to good American food, and does it to a really high degree. We ended up at the chef's table and adored every dish. But best of all, the chef is a Master Sommelier, and the wine pairings were simply amazing. As he saw our reactions to the early courses, he adjusted both the menu and the pairings to take us to some great places. The dishes were consistently in what I'd call the Michelin one-star range, without a doubt.

We did the spare no expenses approach, but even the three courses (with some charcuterie to start) is quite reasonable and would be awesome. If we're ever back in Cincy, we will eat at Local 127.
