What the hail?

I was just woken by thunder and the sound of hail on the windows as an intense little thunderstorm cell passed over. It was enough to worry the dogs, who wanted to go out and hunt whatever was making that noise.

I've mostly dried their paws but they will be cold as I head back to bed.
