Move over,
midsommar and
Canada Day, it's time for...
♥♥♥HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!♥♥♥
(Turn up your volume, and follow
this link for some mood music for this post)
This is the time of the year that we(the half of you that aren't DIRTY FOREIGNERS) should think about our country and what it is truly about.
People often say that our country has been led astray. That this is the culture of
excess,
arrogance, and
ignorance. We have become
bitter and
disillusioned with the government... but too
apathetic to vote (or maybe we just overslept again). Most of us probably wish we could run off to a
frozen socalist paradise.
But is America really that bad? (hushes random people saying yes) Well, it's cliche to say, but it could always be
worse. Some of the
greatest issues facing Sudanese children include: Malaria, involontary army enlistment, goitre, FGM, and completing primary school. On the other hand, polls show that the
greatest issue facing Americans today is "Why did Jeff take ME off his top 8 and put Alexis in my place? He is so dumped" (the second greatest issue being World of Warcraft
addiction)
In fact, some
other countries, you might be killed for voicing your opinion against the government, whereas in America, you are most likely to die while attempting to procure the latest generation of
game console. Voicing your opinion against the government, on the other hand, is
greatly encouraged, and may in fact be
mandatory in Massachusetts. Speaking of my state,
cool stuff happens all the time here, so I don't know what's wrong with your
lame-o states.
What's more,
tons of people actually do want to be in this country, for reasons I can only imagine to be that their country is even
worse.
Even disregarding the standard of living (as
disregard we must) America has also made many valuable cultural contributions to the world. such as
McDonalds,
iPhone, and
Chamillionaire.(
Austria watch out!) In fact, the United States is the world's largest exporter of
pictures of kittens with words on them and other such
internet memes. Our proud citizens provide the rest of the free world with seconds of
lulz, every day!
In conclusion, there is no conclusion: This country still has a ways to go. But hopefully I tricked at least a few of you into
reading the news. (BAHAHA! MY EVIL PLAN!) So let's just relax and enjoy our holiday, leave all our
worries behind us, and
watch things explode, as is the
American way.
To quote Tony quoting somebody else, "Cuz it's my United States of Whatever"
