Fellow traveler, I'm a redhead born in OKC, grew up on Guam, speak Japanese and was married a Japanese babe. Diversity flows in my veins... If you want the best of both worlds (Japan and US) GO TO GUAM ! I lived there for 28 years and one can earn a comfortable living in tourism if they speak Japanese. Guam gets close to a million Japanese tourist a year.. altho typhoons sometimes do affect the industry. I survived 6 super typhoons and 50+ regular tropical storms - its no big deal. Guam is only 3 hours away from Japan and still in US soil! I have since moved on and visted many other continents... but Guam is great spring board to travel around Asia (Phillipines, Korea, Taiwan, etc.) Stay away from the "nampa" boys as the island is small and you'll want to keep a good rep. Start w/the Guam Visitors Bureau and/or the JTB office. Remember this: Japanese can become Americans, but not the other way around.
