[MAL] Jane Austen quote

[Randall = ramblinmann. Set after THIS and THIS.]

“There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.”

Anna didn’t have a home.

Not a real one, anyway. She hadn’t had one since she was four and even then, it wasn’t really a home. After that it was just a jostling from one place to another. She learned very early on that the important things weren’t a matter of places, it was people. And that she didn’t have to live somewhere to make it home-so long as the people she cared about where there, that’s what it was.

She knew that Randall was going through a rough time. She figured that maybe he was looking for something to hold on to, or maybe he just thought it would be a good idea at the time, but she knew enough to let him down gently. They weren’t ready for that. She wasn’t ready for that. She wasn’t looking to settle down quite yet, and while she had no intention of leaving Randall anytime soon-she knew her answer just didn’t seem like that.

Anna felt Randall stir behind her and she started to shift her body a bit to face him, letting him settle over her again. This was home for her-wherever he was. Her stuff didn’t have to stay in his place, and she didn’t have to use his place as an address. So if he was there for her to be with, she was home. And that was a comforting feeling, more often than not. There was a lot of trust there, for her to be able to say something like that, but she didn’t care. It felt right, trusting him, and she wanted to keep it that way.

His body settled in next to her again, and she curled up closer, letting his arms wrap around her and pull her in closer, letting her relax in the safety that being here provided. She wasn’t sure if he would understand it, or if he ever could. Their experiences were completely different, and she had her reasons for thinking the way she did. But they didn’t change her feelings for him, at least not now. And all she could do was hope that that was enough.
