No Such Thing As A Happy Ending

As we all know, I've had mixed feelings about Dollhouse over it's brief run. I do have to say though, that I consider the last episodes to be stunning. And I really do have to hand it to Joss that he is willing to paint such a grim picture. For characters I used to have such a hard time caring about I can say that I care about all of them now. And that the end is not pretty, it may end up being happy, but it sure won't be pretty. And I think there might be a lot more honesty in that then anyone is willing to admit. Life can be happy without being easy, and the world will go through dark and light times. Civilizations usually end...violently, and new ones build. Humans are architects of their own destruction, and redeemers of their own future.

Spoilers under the cut

OH BOYD . Last week when they revealed who he was it was shocking. As Echo/Caroline looked up at him you really felt the betrayal. And then you spent hours reflecting on everything he had done, and while it might not have made sense you had to admit it was possible. His end was so hard to watch. The role reversal was well done. Sadly from the previews for the final episode it didn't work. I did enjoy his comment that Ballard is the family member he can't stand. Everyone has their quirks.

Ballard....I still feel like his character is shaky. He was all upset about Mellie, but at the very end he's freaking out about Echo? After just watching Mellie kill herself for him? Still, for someone who can be dumb as a post sometimes he does care what happens.

Sierra, Victor and Topher...Victor as Topher. All wonderful. Pyria is also wonderful. I can't tell if the Enver is just that good at Topher's voice or if they're having the other actor do his own voice over. Either way, I'm glad Topher was so worried about his Turkey Jerky and caught Boyd out. These three make a good team.

Topher grew a soul!!! This is called character development people. TREASURE IT. I agree he should get to name his own apocalypse but history will probably do it for him. And it will be less nerdy. I like his development with Adelle and with Boyd. Technology is cool, but not when it can be weaponized.

I can't wait to see how it all ends. Knowing Joss the body count will only go higher. It's really a shame the whole show couldn't have been this well written. And I would have loved to get some more Alpha.

Still, it is really grim. Parts of it were actually hard for me to watch. I hope that the dark future we get to see next week has some sort of redeeming value, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's Joss's next big thing-stories with no happy ending.

Next up: Dexter. I've made it through seasons 1 and 2 and enjoyed it a lot. Taking a break before season three.

tv: dexter, tv: dollhouse
