It's 11:20 pm MD time on Fri 1/16.
Tomorrow begins the hopefully at least semi-controlled and hopefully fun chaos of Inaugural Weekend 2009 in DC.
SAT 1/17
I have a 9 am to 4 pm tour in the morning.
My friend from NC and her daughter will drive up and get here ... sometime.
SUN 1/18
We will head down to the Lincoln Memorial for the 2 pm kick off event/concert: James Taylor, Denzel Washington, Bruce Springsteen and a bunch of other people I know of but don't know AND (rumor has it) the Obamas? If so, it will be our best chance of seeing him in person.
At 7 we have tickets for the Capitol Steps, a comedy/music revue, local group. Think Second City from Chicago but ... well DC and nonstop political send ups.
MON 1/19
When the tour bus co called begging me to take a 7 - 10 pm night tour, I said only if my company could come. "Sure! Sure!" Great. Now maybe not so great. After seeing the street closures that begin Mon afternoon, a lot earlier than I was thinking they would, I have no idea how we can do a tour. The busses aren't going to be able to take us anywhere. So are we supposed to walk everywhere? -- in temps dipping into single digits? Oh well.
TUES 1/20
We head out amongst 'em. A lot of 'em by all predictions. OH boy. My plan is to head to the Washington Monument on the Mall where there will be giant screens of the swearing in at the capitol and, if there's no audio, standing close to someone with a radio. Well, we will be standing close no matter what. Just hope someone has a radio.
Being there is exciting and I'm excited.
Getting there, and back home again ... not real excited about that part.
The Metro is the only way I go to DC anyway but this weekend it's going to be a mosh pit.
Oh well!
Biiiiiiiiiiiiig breath.
Let the celebration begin!!!!
