Sometimes interviews can actually be fun

Today I took a personal day and drove over to interview for a Museum Educator position in PA. It was a good interview. I loved the museum, would love the job duties. It's small, as in I would BE the education dept: one curator, one of everything basically -- but a top drawer collection in a brand new facility less than 10 yrs old, presented really really well. The cherry on top is it's on a bluff in the middle of a park overlooking the Susquehanah River with the Blue Ridge Mtns off on the horizon. Really really nice. The negatives, alas, are as big as the positives: they are strapped for money (which is why the staff is so small) so the salary they're offering is ... well, lousy, and the part of town mapquest took me through to get to that gorgeous bluff and park was awful. Boarded up buildings, tatto parlors, dirty. Surely this was the "bad part of town" that any town has, but ... it was bad.

They said they would get back to folks in the next 2 weeks. The finalists will be called back to interview with the Board of Directors. Don't know if I will make the cut or not. Don't know if I would take the job if they offered it. Lots of don't knows at this point but it was a great drive over and back (PA is so gorgeous), I actually enjoyed the interview (which was nice for a change), and I LOVED going thru the museum on my own afterwards. Stay tuned!
