[Action] Everyone come pester!

Dec 15, 2010 09:18

[Anyone who wasn't drafted and tends to frequent the library may have noticed a lanky, raven-haired woman poring through what appears to be a mountain of books. Normally, such activity would cause an expression of complete rapture, but today- as yesterday and the day before- Robin's brow merely furrows in frustration tainted by anger. No one is ( Read more... )

[Jack has felt a bit lost since his return from the Underwater Facility. He misses the ocean terribly, so he's returning to the library to keep taking Raine's advice. He'll be looking for a certain account of the Encantadas by his new favorite author while he is there, and is searching for it when he sees a sleeping girl.

She might awaken when he thumps the heavy and enormous Codex down on the table beside her.]

[That she does, Jacky. With a start that ought to make him right proud of himself. Just be aware of that previously mentioned mountain of books. It's not the most stable of structures...]

Good... [morning? afternoon? Robin realizes she's not sure what time it is.] ... Day.

[And while it most likely has nothing to do with her research, that is a rather interesting looking book he's got there. Don't mind her as she stares at it curiously.]

[Hang on a sec while he prevents an avalanche of books from burying them both.]

Good day and it's easier not to build a house of books, you know. Better to sleep in an actual house that won't fall on top of you.

[Well, it wasn't as if she were in danger. A couple of arms reach out of the table, steadying the stacks and helping him pile those that fell. She doesn't even seem to be aware of them.]

Indeed. I suppose I got a bit... involved.

[Jack's eye falls on a few titles as they manage to wrestle the books back into order.] Involved indeed. Why these, darling?

Only a fool fights an unknown adversary.

[Her brow furrows as she looks over the books. None of them at all useful.]

Though I suppose the Malnosso take great pride in making fools of us all.

The Malnosso. [Jack turns a little pale at this.] I dunno. I dunno about that at all. They were being slaughtered under the sea, miss. Men, women, children and all.

You're one of the draftees?

[Oh man. She's even lost track of what day it is.]

Aye. [He plunks himself down across the table from her and fishes a silver chain out from beneath his shirt--a chain that holds a key. With it, he opens the Codex. A musty smell, like a dark hold, seems to float off the yellowed pages.]

One fool back from the front.

[Robin's silent a moment. If her nakama were coming home, they'd be at the house by now, safe. If not...

Well, it isn't as if they could miss her if they're dead.]

That makes you less a fool than I, then. Tell me about them?

Tell you about whom? The Malnosso? The fighters?

Those we're required to kill.

[Jeweled fingers tap against the facing page of the Codex as Jack considers this request. He doesn't really want to talk about them right now. He wants to read about the Encantadas. As he thinks, a tiny hermit crab crawls out from between two pages and tries to make its escape across the table. Impatiently he picks it up and shoves it back inside the book.]

Why do you want to know so much about them? They look like angels and fight like devils.

I'm not naive enough to think that I'll be overlooked. At some point, they will draft me, or more of my nakama. The more we know, the better chance we have at survival.

The best advice I can give you, darling, is the same I'd give in any situation of the kind: look after your own interests, and avoid getting killed.

...

They can be injured if you strike at the wings, much like ourselves. The underlings are not especially talented fighters, but their elites are deadly. And their General unstoppable. Avoid him.

......More of your nakama? Who of yours has been sent this time? [Curious.]

[This is her way of looking after her own interests.

She'll take a moment to process that information, thank you.]

Zoro, Sanji, and Nami-chan.
