James Corden and Patrick Stewart Exchange Insults "Avatar" actress Zoe Saldana found herself playing the role of peacemaker on Tuesday night when famed stage actor and "Star Trek" alum Patrick Stewart picked a fight while on stage at an awards show.
Stewart, who played Captain Jean Luc Picard on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," was being honored at the Glamour Awards Tuesday night. But he apparently became irked by the host of the event, comedian James Corden, who is the British actor, writer and producer best-known for creating the TV show "Gavin & Stacey."
After Stewart, a presenter, berated Corden for standing "at the back of the stage with your hands in your pockets" and made fun of Corden's "belly," the two began exchanging awkward barbs. "You can see my belly and we can all see you dying right now," Corden jabbed at one point, implying that Stewart's antics weren't getting laughs.
When it came time for Saldana to accept her Women of the Year award, given by the readers of Glamour magazine, she tried her best to smooth things over. She told Corden "For whatever it's worth, I like your belly." Saldana then addressed Corden's words to Stewart, saying "But I would pay to see Sir Patrick Stewart dying on stage any day." Saldana was most likely referring to Stewart's renown as a Shakespearean actor -- he received a Tony Award in 2008 for playing MacBeth, who, of course, dies on stage.
