On the (mis)representation of Saint-Just in "Terror! Robespierre and the French Revolution".

Jul 23, 2009 12:07

I usually write fics to explore Louis-Antoine Saint-Just's personality. This time, I wrote an essay on him: on his misrepresentation in the recent BBC program Terror! Robespierre and the French Revolution, posted in three posts on revolution_fr, the French Revolution community of Livejournal.

The fifth part has a section on the relationship and speculative homosexuality of Maximilien Robespierre and Louis-Antoine Saint-Just.

I wrote this to complete an opinion expressed on historical_love so that we all better know who was/may have been Saint-Just, how he is represented nowadays (or even, since the Thermidorian Reaction) and why I believe that the Saint-Just played by George Maguire in Terror! Robespierre and the French Revolution is wrong, offensive and heinous.

Read the manifesto.
