She’s leaving for her trip by train with little more than an old-fashioned suitcase (robin’s egg blue with Bakelite handles.) It’s all she brought with her when she left her hometown, after all, and even though the trains are much more reliable these days, it’s still better not to be over-burdened with luggage.
Both
the girl and the dog are watching her with sad eyes, and Roza’s glad her husband’s in the lab, as he’s never been any good at goodbyes. “Don’t look so sad, you two. I’ll be back in a month.”

“Do you promise?” asks Calliope, and Roza nods.
