“Do you like it?”

Christopher looks in the mirror and smiles. “Yes.”

“Your eyebrows are still dark,” the hairdresser frets. “It doesn’t look natural. I can fix that if you like?”

The teenager’s smile widens. “No, it’s perfect.”

She nods, and accepts the credit card he hands her. A few moments later, he’s walking through the streets, collar of his woolen coat turned up against the cold. After one more stop at the optometrist his transformation is complete.

He sees his reflection in all the shop windows, and is pleased with it. It’s a most unnatural sort of beauty.

(Supernatural, perhaps.)
