I wish all of you a very happy new Year :) I hope you all spent nice holydays and got lots of presents.
Last readings/watchings:
- Hugo (Hugo Cabret in France because we obviously can't use the same title). I only saw Hit Girl borrowing books from Saruman (or Saroumane in France because obviously we can't use the same orthograph) and hiding a boy from Borat. But it was cute. No idea if it's somehow historically a little correct or not, but as my wife said, the characters could have settled everything in 5 minutes if only one of them had been OK to talk (and really, none of them had good reasons to keep secrets). Maybe we should have watched it in French, because only Christopher Lee could manage a good French accent (but then, he can talk in the language of Mordor, so I expected that much from him). It wasn't as bad as I make it sound, though.
- ER. You know, like Emergency. Because my wife always manage to borrow seasons of it at the local library, and we keep watching them. There's something weird in watching it so fast (usually we watch a season in one or two weeks) when we have so many other things to watch that we don't even know yet. Anyway, Mark Greene has Stargate's Daniel Jackson's voice in French (2 shows I guess I could never watch subbed). That was the "revelation of the year" for me.
- Walking Dead. I've received the 1st season on DVD for Christmas but haven't watched it yet... I'm reading the comic books at the library though, but I'm definitely not the only one and they're hard to get!! Anyway, I like the idea of an on-going zombie story :) And it's my favourite type of zombies (I'm actually very afraid of running zombies... all zombies should be like in Shaun of the Dead).
- Young Avengers. I've started reading the comics (at the library again, thanks for existing, library), but I don't get how American comics actually get published in France so I'm stuck somewhere. Would love to read Children's Crusade though I have no idea how to find it.
- Shin AniPuri (or whatever you want to call the anime for Shin Tennis no Ôji-sama... PoT2 just sounds weird to me). I know it won't be good. I just want lots of crack within the cast of characters and chibi episodes. Can we get chibi episodes? Please?
Out of every manga that started in French in 2011 I've read 20 first volumes.
The series I actually buy are:
And I'm not yet decided for:
But the thing is, I had already read Hikari no Densetsu, Beniiro Hero (Crimson Hero) and Otoyomegatari (Bride Stories), so it's actually very few good findings. (Vamos La is a very sweet 3 volumes series about girls playing indoor soccer.)
The series from which I would like to read more than volume 1 (so I should ask the library to buy them):
Series I won't go past first volume Genkaku Picasso, Hellblade, Kure-nai, Ma copine est fan de yaoi, Incarnations, Kongô Bancho, Kings of Shogi et A town where you live (well, for the series I actually remember about...)
So 2011: a year where I finished more series than I actually started. I read some good titles at the library (I should talk about Jin sometimes.. and buy the books, too).
The series I enjoyed best in 2011: Dorohedoro, 7 seeds, Mizushiro Setona's titles, Happy! (so good, I should talk about Happy! too), Kami no shizuku - Les Gouttes de Dieu and Nodame Cantabile.
I just bought the last volume of Boku to Kanojo no XXX, and the first volumes of the last Ragawa and Morinaga series in Japanese.
If you want to talk about any of these titles with me, feel free. I totally lack fandom interaction nowadays ;_;
I'll try not to be too lazy and to post some art this afternoon...
