Being sorted into Slytherin had proved to be not nearly as devastating as Albus had initially thought it would be. While he may have always imagined going to Hogwarts meant he would be living and learning with his family and all of his relatives in Gryffindor House, Slytherin could offer Albus something that nothing else in Hogwarts could: Scorpius. They lived together, had the same classes together, and even if Albus couldn’t manage to hold a steady conversation with the blond without stuttering or saying or doing something to humiliate himself, there wasn’t anything Scorpius could do to avoid him.
So as not to come off as some sort of weird stalker, especially since Albus couldn’t finger exactly what it was about Scorpius that he found so intriguing, he did the majority of his admiring from a distance and in private.
It turned out not everyone was as infatuated with Scorpius as Albus was. In fact, the majority of the school seemed to dislike and distrust him on account of the fact that his father was one of those few Death Eaters who, in public opinion, had managed to get off far too easily given their crimes. That didn’t seem to bother Scorpius in the slightest, however, and no matter what obstacles or slander were thrown at him, the blond breezed through everything with an effortless grace Albus couldn’t help but admire.
He knew if their situations were reversed he wouldn’t have reacted as well as Scorpius had; he probably would have moped and felt sorry for himself, he probably would have gone out of his way to be nice, to make friends, and to prove his worth to the rest of the school. That definitely wasn’t Scorpius’ way. Instead, the blond displayed a ‘take it or leave it’ attitude and backed it up with the opinion that if someone chose to ‘leave it’ they were the only ones missing out on anything. He carried it off so well that Albus watched as slowly, the whole school began to believe his philosophy as well.
The only thing that really bothered Albus was the fact that no matter what he did he just couldn’t seem to get Scorpius to like him.
