Freezing rain and the World-as-Badminton-Tournament feeling

"If I were a younger man, I would write a history of human stupidity; and I would climb to the top of Mount McCabe and lie down on my back with my history for a pillow; and I would take from the ground some of the blue-white poison that makes statues of men; and I would make a statue of myself, lying on my back, grinning horribly, and thumbing my nose at You Know Who."

It's a shitty day outside. High wind and sleet. Alix woke me up this morning with the bad news about Kurt Vonnegut, which reinforced my quasi-paranoia about all the people I like who've died in the last year. It's been pretty bad; Robert Anton Wilson, Octavia Butler, Bob Frenay, and now this. More than just people I like, it's people who I've always sort of concieved of as being on the same team. I'm not sure what we're playing, or why, but this vague feeling that the world is divided into people who are or are not on my team has always been in the background. So after I got tired of brooding, I made a list of those who are still alive, please reply with any additions you'd make. List:

1. Tom Robbins
2. Jon Waters
