10th_division CHARACTER NAME: Kadaj
SERIES: Final Fantasy VII Advent Children
RESERVED: No
WISHLIST: No
PERSONALITY: Hopelessly devoted to his Mother. Vengeful toward traitors, like Cloud. Vengeful and manipulative. Good leadership and public speaking skills. Confident in himself and his abilities.
BACKGROUND: Kadaj is one of three "Sephiroth Remnants", which are remains of Sephiroth's will and spirit in physical form. His goal is to retrieve Jenova's cells and do her bidding. He only appears in the Advent Children movie, which is set two years after the Final Fantasy VII video game.
Throughout most of the movie, Kadaj employed numerous methods to locate and obtain his Mother's cells. First, the remnants attacked Cloud Strife and demanded to know their mother's whereabouts; meanwhile, Kadaj was on the phone speaking to the president. Afterward, Kadaj broke into Rufus ShinRa's lodge, threatening Tseng and Elena in exchange for Jenova's head and revealing that 'mother' is Jenova, who is somehow related to the cause of geostigma. He also announced that he and his brothers (Loz and Yazoo, the other two remnants) were planning a new 'reunion', which would result in an assault on the Planet.
Later on, the remnants collected the children who had been infected with geostigma and took them to the Forgotten City, where Kadaj talked them into drinking the infected waters and increasing Jenova's influence on them. He then turned the children and his brothers against Cloud, who he proclaimed as their traitorous brother; unfortunately, Cloud could not stop them, and they all returned to Edge, where they arranged the children and began their reunion. Loz and Yazoo unsealed Bahamut SIN, and after Kadaj summoned him, Rufus double-crossed Kadaj, revealing that he was in possession of Jenova's head as he threw its container over the side of the building.
Kadaj leaped out to retrieve the box before attempting to escape on motorcycle, but Cloud was quick to pursue him. Chased into the Aerith's church, a column fell on top of her flower garden, breaking the ground and releasing a stream of healing Lifestream. In a wild panic, Kadaj quickly left and drove into the ruins of Midgar, where he lost his final showdown to Cloud. More motivated than ever to have the reunion, Kadaj absorbed the remainder of Jenova's cells; his body transformed into Sephiroth.
Sephiroth's plan was that those who died from geostigma would return to the Lifestream, poisoning it and eventually giving Sephiroth complete control over it. Then he would drive it into space in search for a new planet; inflicting Gaia with a collision into another planet probably would generate enough Lifestream for Sephiroth to become a god at its point of injury (which is what he'd intended in the video game).
However, Sephiroth was eventually defeated and dissipated away, leaving an extremely weakened Kadaj. Aerith's spirit began to rain the healing Lifestream over Midgar as she called to Kadaj; believing that Aerith's voice is his 'mother', he allowed himself to be taken into the Lifestream.
TIMELINE: Taken from just as he was transforming into Sephiroth.
DREAM: A sickly strong feeling tied a million knots in his stomach; the rush of power was so great that he had no control over it. His body felt numb and wouldn't move how he wanted it to; the surge of power was intoxicatingly nauseous. He wanted to vomit, and at the same time he wouldn't let himself. He didn't want someone to know how badly he hurt inside--no, he didn't want anyone to know.
Once more, he envisioned the fire engulfing a village, and there was that overbearing figure before him. He could feel the heat of the flames, could smell the sooty smoke, and squinted just to see that figure amidst the dancing lights and shadows. There the figure stood with his twisted smirk before turning away and disappearing in the rising flames.
He was hit with a wave of jealousy and anger, but he didn't really know or understand why. All he felt was a consuming envy toward that dark figure; he felt it so passionately that it was blackening his insides and tormenting his mind. It was all he could think about.
Suddenly there was a stab in his chest, and he felt himself falling into darkness. Where there were once heated flames now was a freezing darkness devouring him. He thrashed frantically but could not feel the control he had over his body, and the stabbing in his chest continued as if someone was striking him or impaling him again and again.
'Mother! Make it stop! Make it stop!'
Though he cried out, there was no sound. And he felt as if his voice was hoarse... or wasn't even there at all. But he didn't care anymore--he just wanted the cycle of pain to stop. Instead it continued, lasting for... he didn't know for how long. All he could remember was feeling so tired, so cold, so numb in that darkness, blinking dry eyes that despaired to see something -anything- in that darkness.
Finally, he simply closed his eyes and hoped that he'd never open them ever again. But a nagging feeling inside of him eventually convinced him to open his eyes, and he saw only a world of white. Before him was a small and shapely goddess of sorts; she had the female human figure but somehow seemed unworldly.
'Mother?' He reached out to touch her, and felt a shiver as they joined hands. 'You... you aren't my mother!!!'
Then he took up his souba and drove it through her, ripping her apart and revealing a lady in a pink dress. She smiled sweetly, reached out, and embraced him... before he opened his eyes for real and found himself encased in a strange syrupy shell.
