Well! I AM VERY WEAK TO DRAGONS and if I find a dragon book while wandering around at random, I will usually try to give it a chance. A few years back, before I ever apped camp, I found the first Temeraire book in a bookstore while I was on vacation! ... and just sat down in the bookstore reading it and zoning out until my mom found me. She's a librarian, and so she watched me for a while until I looked up and went "I take it I'm ordering this book for our branch, then." "YES." So I read the series as it came out and loved it, though I never really fixated on any particular character! Good times.
When Temeraire and Laurence apped into camp, it'd been a while since I'd done a reread, so I went to find my copies of the books. I barely even remembered Lien's existence until I got to her in the second book (...in which she doesn't even talk...) and as soon as I read the first description of her walking in the garden while the other dragons avoided her, I thought "oh gosh, she must hate herself." And then I knew I needed to app her. NO THOUGHT WAS INVOLVED it was just a fact of the universe. So I told Seth I was apping her and had HAHA OOPS I HOPE WE AREN'T FIXATING ON THE SAME CHARACTER moments with Shuri and formed a very strong idea of her character!
But I wasn't sure about what I was getting out of her role in the story, and the fact that I was reading between the lines worried me. Then I think... a week before counselors opened again, the omnibus of the first three books came out, with a Lien-centric short story included as incentive to buy it. I got my roommate to drive me to the bookstore and the Lien POV was everything I ever hoped and dreamed, so I rejoiced and thought about my app and wrote it during the window despite knowing for months I needed to app her because I fail.
Tell me about Leo's role in Pandora Hearts! HOW DOES HE MOVE THE STORY FORWARD, I seriously need to read that canon sometime.
