In a room full of geeks with a big screen projector on the wall. Just about every year all of us in ORAC gather to watch the Doctor Who season opener (and closer,
we got together New Years Day to watch the End of Time) So after the Fencon meeting we Matt Smith's first outing as the newest incarnation of the Doctor.
Eleven hits the ground running in this one. Several bits of the story felt like Smith was pulling following the pattern set by Tennant, but then he has dominated the role for the past few years, I guess it's hard not to see him in there. I'm sure Matt will be putting more of his spin on the character in the coming episodes. Though from a few bits I've seen from later episodes, I think he ends up channeling a bit more of Patrick Troughton, which should be quite fun.
We get a bit of timey-wimey in the introduction of Amelia Pond, with her first meeting him when she's a little girl. Moffat said her relationship with the Doctor wasn't going to be like the previous ones, and the final reveal that Amelia is going to get married tomorrow makes me wonder if she's not going to be a constant companion of the Doctor, especially since there is word that she is going to be pregnant in one episode. Still, it's a good start to the new era of Doctor Who, as
reudaly summed it up perfectly: "The kid did good."
