Alas, poor New Orleans... it seemed as though the French Quarter was to be spared the day Katrina hit, but the after-math has taken it. "Wiped out," according to the reports. Whenever a disaster happens -- anywhere else in the world --, there's a global uproar of support, almost always led by the U.S.. Being that not a single troop or dime has come from abroad, it seems that the rest of the world simply doesn't care. I understand the "evil America!" sentiment held by other nations (it's a classic symptom of resentment -- America is the most powerful and, as such, pushes it's weight around and forces it's presence to be known... just as any other nation in existence would do; just as every other nation has done which has had the opportunity), but this is simply sick. What a sad, sad world we live in....
(If the previous didn't get enough people angry with me...) Bush is a good president during initial moments of tragedy. He has gone to every extreme possible in an attempt to help the people of New Orleans (and the wider spectrum hit by Katrina) while also bearing the more finical matters of the rest of the country in mind (he's attempting to force the gas barrons to lower the price of oil by the barrel). If the barrons ignore Bush and other drastic steps aren't afforded, we're going to be screwed oil-wise for some time... there's already talk about rationing oil in the North-East. Down South, oil has reached $6..
Alas.
